Wheel hop is VERY hard on the drivetrain. When the tire leaves the ground the stress is removed from the drivetrain and when the tire makes contact with the pavement the stress is back with a vengeance. This is repeated time and time again quickly resulting in significantly more stress than just a good old fashion tire spin without hop.
