I built my kit after seeing your pictures!

Will post my pictures tonight!

I did a modification from yours. I followed your exact same route but added another ground (replacing the factory ground) on the right hand shock tower. The factory one can be used as dental floss...

Adding up to the MPG issue. HP increase is inversly proporsional to MPG. The reason is that horsepower is directly proportional to the volume of fuel and air entering the engine. the more fuel that goes into the engine, the higher the HP increase.

This mod works by letting the PCM, injectors and spark work more efficiently with no bottleneck in amperage resistance, thus leading in a better PCM readout, precise fuel measures and hotter sparks resulting in a small HP increase.

OUCH!!! My head hurts from thinking.... Back to subject.

I will post the pictures tonight.

Ian

Nice rant on the MPG, dwysywd, and welcome to the Forums.

Mike, it's interesting that you found the performance increase but I wonder how much came from just having the battery ground disconnected for the time it took to hook up the wires. Thanks for the pictures too, I think I'll try the same thing. [8)]

I beg to differ on the MPG issue and mods. I have been getting better milage w/ my mods than w/o. You have to drive like an old fart (no offence guys [8D]) but it does work. I did the same road trip one w/o mods and got 550 km. Did the same trip w/ a P&P'd intake bigger TB mopar PCM Long tube header and a high flow cat and got 650km. same driving conditions (g/f get car sick real easy) pretty much the same weather.

Nice mod post btw, I'll have to give this a go in my wee beasty

Have to agree with 98 Neon. When I modded my 98 Neon RT, put in headers, Big bore TB, cat back exaust, better plug wires and new plugs, Ice Man CAI, filled motor mounts and a racing computer (PCM) I picked up about forty+ horse power and three to four miles to the gallon. Didn't really made a cost savings, the Racing PCM required 91 Octane or better fuel.

Ok.

Here is some more on the issue.

I did noticed a better throttle response, smoother acceleration and a smooth cruise speed.

On the HP to MPG issue... You are partially correct on this issue.
If you get more low RPM torque with the mod, and you drive like a human being, you should see a MPG increase. but this is by the simple fact that you need less accelerator action to move the car. this means that you move with less fuel thus increasing the MPG range. But when you drive like me, average MPG is 10, flooring the car every chance you get just to feel the G-force torque, you will actually decrease MPG.

At the track when I was doing research on boost, I was able to consume a 1/4 tank in four passes! this means that at this rate, my car would give me FOUR MILES PER TANK!!

MPG has always been a combination of Driving stile, Low end torque, gear ratio, and fuel efficiency. you play with one of these parameters, you will modify the range.

Mean Green.......I've been searching high and low for a place to get cable that I could cut to size. Your tip about leftover cable at audio install shops is great. From what I have been able to learn, the finer the stranding (more strands), the greater the ability to flow current. I've been trying to find something comparable to "Hyper Ground" but no luck. They claim 1477 strands I think I read.
What I like most about your install is cost. Great bang for the buck.
I'm going to do a ground wire mod, too, and I'm in the process of getting all the pieces together. A couple of things I'll do different will be to run straight from the PCM to the battery and try to find Two places directly on each end of the head if possible. All the suppliers of these kits seem to suggest grounding both fender/struts for some reason. That must help somehow, too. I'm not knocking your setup, you probably have close to maximum with yours. Your results have motivated me to monster ground my PT. I know, I'm splitting hairs.

Yeah, nice mod. I got to hit up my local audio installer and maybe even Best Buy to see if they have any excess wire that they trashed. Then buy some of those gold plated connectors.

Ok I just remembered how to post pictures...

here you can see the diference of OEM and the #8 cable. Notice that the OEM is a flat wick.

Here is my first connection, to the second ground bolt on the fender(where all the other grounds are.

My next step was the cable from the negative terminal to the manifold bolt

From there on, I went to the Valve cover

my next place on the dasy chain was the tranny

and from the tranny I went to the PCM bolt. it is hard to see but it is there, this one has a yellow cover and it is on top of the intake pipe.

This is much like Mean Green idea but I just added the nest Ground to the mix:

This is a cable replacing the factory cable on the first picture. It connects from the black bracket in one side (visible) and the other end goes to the engine head directly.

all the pieces cost me less than $20.00 like Mean green stated initially. The reason for the low cost is that they are interested on my settup so they can do it to their ricer customers...

The cable is a high performance directional cable with an ultra flexible covering that comes with a transparent black color. The connectors, the first eight where gold plated but I ran short of connectors. In my desperation, found some Mil-spec connectors used in aircrafts. Soooo, I had to use those in some points. Maybe I will replace them later on with the gold plated ones.

I can defeneatly feel the diference! the engine feels crisp. it accelerates with no hickups, it cruises smoothly. Maybe I can feel a little better low end punch. Time to go to the track.

BTW, I never disconected the factory ground so my PCM never got "resetted"

Nice pics, Ian. Can't wait to see what it does for you at the track.
