Update.
I raced yesterday and got more info on the car: 1: If you race the car with the traction control turned off and the car has the auto stick, like mine, the computer shifts to second when the tires slips. 2. The car actually runs better with the traction control on! 3. Once you have the manual boost controller installed don't rev the engine at the line, the turbo will spool to the preset setting and your tires will spin like a mustang, it wont stop unless you let up the gas a little or the computer will shift to second and kill your pass. I launched the car from idle at the lights and made better times than when I charged the turbo and the torque converter. Also with this controller the turbo lag is even less than factory setting... I am still amazed at the speed that the turbo spools up to speed. 4. You may have spikes when you are driving normally and floor it. Again this is with the automatic because of the downshift effect. On the five speed, I think, it wont happen unless you rev the engine while downshifting. This spike is less than a second in duration and my turbo friends tell me it wont damage the engine. If you accelerate proportionally (not going to full throttle from partial throttle in a snap) you will never see the spike. On the track this never happens because you are going from a stop position. 5. Tire pressure is also a must in this car. I had pressurized the tires to 42 PSI for "Fuel economy" but with the 12 PSI boost and at this tire pressure, the car did a horrible 15.72 ET at 85 MPH I set the tire pressure to the factory setting of 38 PSI and bumped the pressure to 13 PSI and went to 15.4 ET at 87 mph. 6. Boost setting. I went conservative this time I want to set up the car so I can drive it normally and when I go to the track I race with no adjustment time. I set the pressure to 14 PSI on the last 2 passes and made 14.8 ET at 90 MPH with a 2.3 sec at the 60 feet mark. If this trend continues I see that for every pound that you raise on the turbo, you will shave a half a sec from your time. Next time I will go to 15 PSI and see if the trend continues and make 14.4 - 14.2, and if I feel lucky maybe push it to 16 PSI and enter the 13 sec club. Man I am really enjoying this car.... Now that is scary. BTW, on the track forget fuel economy... I burned a quarter tank in five passes or if I want to impress I would say that my fuel economy is five miles per tank. hehehe Ian |

Ian,
You are the man! How I wish I lived closer. But this will have to do. Great tech. work what a lucky person you are to be able to test year round. When you luanch from idle is this with your foot on the brake, with preload or not? Culprat |

The worst times I have had were with launch preload and the traction control off. The tires start to spin uncontrollably and the computer shifts to second killing my entire pass.
With preload and no traction control: 2.53 at the 60 feet mark No preload and Traction control on: 2.19 at the 60 feet mark Remember, the lower this numbers, the better the traction. The reason is that the computer doesnt let the turbo boost over 5 PSI in stock mode. With the boost controller in place the turbo will go to the set pressure point. And launching with 13 PSI at the line will definitely spin the tires. With no preload it launches nicely with the boost jumping to 13 PSI in less than a second into the pass sticking you to the seat!!! Ian |

That is it? Boy am I dumb. I would love to do this. I am just afraid of frying my head gasket. Guess I gotta get a boost guage an some others installed. This looks like too much fun.
Inferno Red GT, chrome wheels, chrome AMP fuel door, chrome side spears, PT Cruiser 3rd light diffuser, silencers removed from airbox...ain't this car fun?!?!? |

Thanks Flashbk2
In the first picture is the factory setup. Notice the two lines connected to the solenoid marked #2. The cream colored comes from the Turbo compressor; the orange line goes to the Wastegate (you will see it between the engine and the firewall). In the second picture, the blue tube is the line connected to the top fitting on the solenoid, and in front of it is the rubber part of the stock cream-colored tube. The cream colored line is what the turbo freaks call the "Boost Reference Input Line". It is connected directly to the turbo compressor. This will be connected to the Hallman, or other make, boost controller input side or bottom fitting. The third picture is the completed setup with a nylon tie holding it in place. If you move the knob to the left you will decrease the pressure. If you move it to the right you will increase pressure. Also try to keep the blue line as short as possible to increase reaction time of the controller and minimize boost spikes. It is true that a picture speaks more than a thousand words... I have the instructions also in PDF format with the pictures. E-mail me if you want them. Ian |

Thats cool Ian. I have a Hallman ES on my (broken) talon. I might try to convince my dad to buy a boost guage and I will just give him the controller. Just remember that boost is addictive, once it has you hooked, you will keep trying to squeeze that last fraction of a psi out of the turbo.

so to sum it up...What are you spiking at and what are you holding? And did you get a better fuel pressure regulator or high pressure fuel pump?? Nice times by the way..
