Flash,

I got a p1188 code this morning on my to work. I was on the highway going about 60 when it happened. I reset the computer and havent seen it since. I think its just going to be something you have to deal with when running the manual boost controller.

Doesnt really worry me much, also you dont really have to reset the computer if you can stand looking at the idiot light.

I was talking to Exhaust Depot last night, and I ended up puchasing the HKS BOV kit that he makes for the SRT-4 for my GT. He says you can run both BOV's at the same time with no problems, this is what he does on his SRT-4. Or he also said that you can always just block the vacumn line that goes to the factory BOV. And the HKS BOV is super loud!!! :-)

He takes a 2.5" pipe and welds the flange and the BOV to it, then you just gotta put it inline with your 2.5" rubber hose that goes from the turbo to the intercooler by cutting about 2" from the hose and clamping it on. (see pic below) And then run a vacumn line to it.

I cant Wait!! Swoooooooosh!!!!! :-)

Man, you guys are my hero's. One of these days I am going to get the huevos to start messing with the boost on my PT. I am still stinging from paying $5k to put an engine in my wifes Trooper that just went seemingly for no reason at 110,000 miles.

Inferno Red GT, chrome wheels, chrome AMP fuel door, chrome side spears, PT Cruiser 3rd light diffuser, silencers removed from airbox...ain't this car fun?!?!?

Just curious as to what you guys adding the HKS BOV are gonna do when you have to take it in for work? Kinda hard to hide a IC hose that's been shortened ain't it? I kinda hate to sit back and wait until you guys get this all figured out, but as stated above, I don't have the stones to do what you all are doing!<img src=icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle> Thanks & keep up the R&D!

Ok Ian,exhaust depot, chipmunk I've been thinking this error. Matt I'm tapped into line on back intake for my boost gage where did you tap in? What if we're not sensing true vacuum where we are and we've adjusted boost control to this and in fact are pushing more boost than we see on guage! Say we're reading 13 psi on gage but in fact are pushing in excess of 16 psi boost ! I really need to get my 2003 manuals asap.....I'd like to see what the drivetrain diagnostics say about p1188.

I used to worry about modding my car and voiding the warranty but the I realized, I pay $$$ a month for my car, god damn it, Im gonna do what I want to it.

As far as the BOV goes, thats not a very long rubber IC hose, I may just order a replacement one to have around, if I ever bring it in for warranty work. Technically if anything happens to the car, they would have to prove that my add on BOV caused it, highly unlikely, the BOV only does good for the turbo system.

What's up! I also have a manual boost controller. A buddy of mine has 11 second Buick GN and we have been messing around with turbo trying to find a way to keep the boost from dropping off so much. Right now the bost controller is directly on the turbo from the pressure side to the wastgate this has seemed to run the best. I also have been getting that p1188 code the throttle inlet pressure TIP seems to read to much boost at part throttle. DOES this make sence. It also takes several hundred miles before the code shows up. When i had the boost controller hooked up through the wastgate solenoid it read a code of p0234 and p0243 and once all three appeared...any info on that would be appriciated. Stock with only the intake silencers out 38psi in the tires 13 psi of boost peak dropping to 6 to 7psi around 4900 rpms i was able to turn a best of 15.32 at 93.75mph with 2.7 60foots. with the boost controller in and running 32 psi in the front tires and 16 psi of boost ran 14.65 at 97.5mph with a 2.47 60 foot time. I tried 18psi of boost on my final run pulled a 2.35 60 foot and second gear began to spin severely so i let off. I was running 104 unleaded on all runs to prevent detonation. I fogot to mention i have the five speed and am having trouble lauching. Really want strut bar, drag radials, and an intake.Have access to a mandrel pipe bending machine hoping to fabricate some goodies.

The incredible thing is that I have never gotten a code in my PT! BTW mine is an "Auto Stick" one. I have gotten the car up to 16 PSI with no check engine light. also, at part throttle I had the problem of going to 14 PSI but lowered the presure on the controller and it got resolved.

Like I said before, Use one setting for driving and another one for the strip. Even with the controller at the lowest setting, the spool up times will be faster than stock.

I am very interested to see what the dealer will say about the code in your car. I am starting to think that the manual and auto stick cars are diferent in the computer setup.

My car in stock setup would go to 9-PSI in first, 10-psi in second, 14-psi in third and fourth....

with the controller I am going 10-PSI in first, 12-PSI in seccond and 14-PSI in third and fourth with a 12-PSI drop after the 100 MPH mark.

Ian

Ian you may be on to something . My boost levels in stock aren't gear dependant but they were damn low. 5-9 psi in all gears with occasional spike to 10 .
