Matt here's a pic where I'm tapped into vacuum for my boost gage . The big hose near the top goes to rear of intake.

This mfrom pte guru MX5 who has the manuals I'll be getting in May Throw away that Haynes manual and get the OEM service manual set.

Page 343 of the 2003 powertrain diagnostic manual:

P0234 - Overboost performance
P0243 Wastgate solenoid circuit
P1188 Throttle inlet pressure sensor performance

There are 7 pages of diagnostic information on those codes.

Chipmunk,

Just a thought,

Install the BOV on the rubber tube going from the Intercooler to the Mass Air Flow Sensor just before the throttle body. It will be inside the engine compartment and not under the car where a bump can break it.

I don't now if this hose that I am talking about is the best place to put it but it is just another option.

Ian

Thats a good thought Ian, Im not quite sure if it will fit there though. But that hose would be much easier to take off I think. Do you know if those plastic rings that couple peices together around the tubing come off some how? I also need to find out how much a replacement hose will cost.

I haven't installed my controller yet as I just did the boost gauge. I have the silencers out and the K&N filter in place. I'm only seeing 10 psi max boost. I'm getting good vacuum, but certainly not the boost. I'm hooked up per the pic at http://www.vinylguy.com/boostgauge.htm.

I'm trying to borrow another boost gauge (or I'll pull the one in my RX-7) to confirm whether the boost gauge is defective or I'm not making boost.

have you thought about upgrading the wastegate actuator? (in referance to the boost tapering off. The SRT's were doing the same thing, as the actuator unit stock can't hold the boost through redline, and it seems like a weak link in this application when the boost creeps up to the 14lb mark. It's been having trouble holding the peak boost in the SRT's and I'd imagine as it's the same setup in the GT that we're having the SAME trouble those guys are.
they got 280 some horse and 290 some lb feet at the wheels with a mix of 100 octane in the tank and 91 with boost at 17psi with just a MBC and acuator! *www.turboxs.com - check out the SRT stuff, I've found it VERY informative in getting ideas and applying the ideas to tweaking the PT cruiser turbo so far.

thats the thread i'm refering to.
I will be installing their setup as soon as the dual stage boost controller and gauges go in, EGT *VERY important*, Boost, and AF down by the cup holders, and the rest in the glove box. (i want as stealth an install as possible, as I'll also be hiding the air ride controls in the glove box and the dual stage nitrous switch under the dash.

Ian,
Where did you mount your boost gauge and Auto Meter pod? Also what are the part numbers so I know what to order?
Thanks, Deen

I could never find the single gauge pilar pod so I got an old school autometer mounting bracket and got a black wire protector to cover the wires and the vaccum line. I don't have the part numbers but I know that it was the cheapest one, $12.00 for the black bracket and $50.00 for the gauge.

Gary C -

I've been over on the SRTForum and found the same info. Some of the guys are using the AGP Waste Gate Acutator WITHOUT any boost controller to get 14 psi, rock steady, no spikes and no p1188 errors.

I ordered the Waste Gate Actuator and BOV block-off plate last week and will be installing them this week, along with the BOV from Hector at Exhaust Depot. If I can adjust the Waste Gate Actuator to get the boost I want with a controller, and with a CEL error, I'm there! I'll post again with an update.
