Just a friendly warning for those those with the Autostick tranny.
Use of MBC and upgraded WGA at high boost levels may lead to transmission failure. I'm not the only one to have this happen. My GT is still at the dealer, looks like I definitely killed the torque converter. Will report back with details when its fixed. It was fun while it lasted, thats for sure. BTW, I was boosting about 18lbs, Stage1, DSBC, TC WGA, 2.5" exhaust. |

18PSI is pretty high! I knew these A/S transmissions were going to be a problem. I'm interested in how much it costs you for repairs because I think a lot of us are going to follow suit. My sympathies RobGT! I've been there before with my other car (broke at the track).[xx(]
I haven't heard much talk about beefing up this transmission, but it sure needs talking about. It should have it's own forum section.

I think I remember a thread somewhere about an auto trans shop in Houston that was looking into what could be done to beef up the PT transmission. Anyone have any details on this or am I just believing in Santa?

I think Tommy from Haynes Jeep said that he was having some custom transmission upgrades done, and that a package would eventually be available to the public by the vendor.

After 18 days at the dealer, my car will be ready today.
It's been out of commission for over 3 weeks! It is COVERED under warranty. I couldn't afford it not to be! I went completely back to stock before turning it in. The Thanksgiving holiday and a wait for parts delayed the service. I'd love to upgrade in the future, BUT: There are a few companies that will upgrade, starting at about $3000 FOR PARTS. Now if i'm going to do that, I might as well do axles, motor mounts, bushings, etc. Then add the cost of a turbo kit, fuel management, bigger exhaust and a high performance suspension. We're talking like $15 large!!! Bottom line is that if I can justify the tranny upgrade for like $4500, I'm gonna take it all the way! I love this car, but I simply don't know if it's worth it for me. Thanks for your responses, you guys are great! |
