My point was:

Save $$ somewhere else.

Shaving pennies on safety items is like not wearing a seatbelt, 90% of the time you may be able to slide by, it's just not knowing when that crunch time will come, or how good do your brakes really need to be.

If the rotors are thin, replace them with an upgrade (EBC makes a great one).

The most foolish PT owner is one that spends money on chrome ashtrays and cheaps out by doing half a brake job.

Just because you can, doesn't always mean you should.[8)]

hey kirby

i agree with you on most of your points!!!!!!

but instead of ebc rotors may i suggest what i did to mine??

have a NEW set of stock rotors slotted and nickeled plated.

this helps reduce heat problems and the plating increases pad life.

i have 16000 on my set and still look new!!!

Hey DfunkDJ, the turbo rotors are crap too. Reason being, the factory made them really soft, and if you have a lead foot like me, mine didn't even last 14,000 miles. [:I] They made them soft because of the stock semi metallic pads they use, so that brake noise would be to a minimum. [:0]

Okay, my 2 cents. If you have fairly thin rotors to start (like the PT and most new cars) and you don't have any warpage (pedal pulse)or gouges, slap the pads in. ...
I agree 100%.
As for the grooves like an old record, there's no worry, the pads will conform.

If I could get just a skim cut I would go with Kirby but in So Cal I have not found an inexpensive shop that will do it. They all seem like the give me back min thickness rotors even if I give them nice looking ones to begin with. They all want to give me my moneys worth of metal cuttings. [xx(] It looks like my PT will get me to 40,000 miles on both tires and brakes and I will change to better pads and slotted rotors. Any suggestions on the best for performance?? I too love my present brake power and control but of course want more.

I squeezed 17,000 miles out of the factory pads and rotors before they were both junk on my 2003 GT. I got tired of looking at the brake dust in the wheels all the time so I purchased a set of Raybestos ceramic pads from Pep Boys and a new set of rotors from Chrysler. Now I have 78,000 miles (mainly stop and go L.A. freeway) and I'm still good to go. I just purchased another set of Raybestos linings and have them siting on the work bench for the near future. Brake dust has almost been non-existant.

hi dj

sorry in the delay in responing to your??.

i had a place called brake warehouse do my rotors and pads, the reason for using the stock rotors was at the time noone had aftermarket avaiable. so they use them and drilled, slotted & plated them. then matched up some kevlar fiber pads. to do all 4 wheels was $ 700. but well worth it if i can get 30000 out of the pads, which i have about 17000 now.

does any one know where i can get stainless braided brake hoses????
