with all this hi-tek these automotive engineers are working you wonder why they did not come up with a remote location filter - one that is easy accessible just like filling up the windshieldwasher unit. Can you imagine to crawl under the car ,and using a pump, you have to fill up the washer reservoir?
But they want you to go to the dealer to do the work for you (at 80.--/hr). The heck with them, I will figure out a way to machine an adapter. Had one on my 73 BMW. worked beautifully.
Basically this is how it works: Adapter to screw on filter location,
stainless steel hose out to the filter and back to the adapter.
Have you seen how racecars have them? They don't hoist the car up on a ramp to change oil and then go back on track. It's all beautifully accessible

I mangled my stock filter. I have a plier type filter wrench that works great, but I pierced the filter trying to wrench it off. I think the location is great and hopefully the next one comes off easier.

When the Pep Boys parts guy gave me the wrong filter number I looked up a bunch using manufacturers web sites:
Mobile 1: M1-209
Purolator: L20195 Pure1: PL20195
K&N: HP-2009
Fram: PH3600

Hope that helps someone. The filter book at Pep Boys didn't have the 2003 info, and the parts guy gave me the standard PT filter part number from his database.
