Is there some secret code to removing the oil filter on the GT? 3,100 miles on mine, and time to cahnge the oil. I drained it then went to remove the filter.
I have a filter tool, but can't get it to fit between the filter and whatever pipe it is that is next to it. I then tried a strap tool. Not only will it not budge the filter, but collapsed it a bit. Any help will be appreciated. Jumpin' Joe Onyx Green GT |

The first one's always a bi...! Try the strap but get in closer to the gasket end even if you can only get a quarter turn to break it loose . Failing that its gonna be drive a screw driver though it to get it to turn but last resort 'cuz if that fails you gonna need to get towed probably !

I took one of those metal loop wrenches and removed the pin from one side, then snaked it around the filter and put the pin back in place. It still took about 5 or 6 hard turns before the filter came off.
Factory filters are paper thin to begin with, so you gotta make sure you dont just twist the filter without twisting the screw. I use Mobil1 oil along with the Mobil1 filter (M1-209). Matt 2003 GT Cruiser |

Thanks. If it doesn't work, get a bigger hammer is my motto!!
I have two sizes of strap wrenches - used the smaller on the first time. Got the bigger one, and after much grunting and groaning was able to break it loose. Thanks Jumpin' Joe Onyx Green GT |

ya I just did my first oil change and had the same thing.. I got the strap one because the other one didnt fit.. you can turn the strap thing sidways and get it in there.. then I got the fram one with the grip on it so you can just take it off with your hand next time..

Had a 89 cherokee once. The first oil change was a nightmare. Totaly destroyed the filter taking it off. Chrysler is known for this as I found out later. Took the GT to a lube place for it's first change. Let them do the cusing and knuckle banging.
