Valve Noise FYI

On my 2003 GT with 667 miles, I was getting a tapping sound from the engine about 1.5 minutes after it warmed it. This happen first thing in the morning and also, after the car had been setting for awhile. I took it to the dealer and they replaced all of valve tappets. Now she is purring like a kitten.

I get that valve noise too. But mine usually starts just after I start it cold and it is usually gone after the engine warms up.

Is this something that could be bad for the engine in the long term??

I've also got some valve train tapping. It was REALLY bad the first morning I started it up after the day I got it home. It hasn't been that bad since, but it does make a lot of clattering when it is running.

So this is a problem with the tappets that is replaceable under warranty??

Yes, go get it fixed. Its a warranty item.

To me its a bad sign. It indicates that the lifters are not getting enough oil, when they are cold, which can't be a good thing. I have a 2.4 with 97K miles in my 97 mini van and it doesn't tap when its cold. Go get it fixed while its under warranty, and its still Chryslers problem.
