Not to flame anybody, I just want to pose a question. Is it possible that when a manufacturer of a product does a before and after dyno test, if the battery is disconected (as is so often suggested in the instructions) and the computer is reset, that can by itself show a gain? This may not be done to fool anybody but it could happen and over time as the car is driven it will settle back down to its original base line.

What do you all think??[:I]

well I have heard bull before and now here it is again.
'I have the amx intake to the airbox with a k & N filter and even though the car was only tested on the track it works, non S1, Factory exhaust, boost set at 16 seats removed. 14.20 in 1/4. same set up, intake changed with up charge pip and cone filter and I slowed to 14.55 switched back and went right back to 14.26 now which is better. At wot the up charge doesn't do a thing. buy all you want and my $100.00 intake from amx will out run you and give you better mpg doing it.

So you are saying you have Jim's turbo up to airbox pipe and K&N drop in filter and it worked better than an open air hot engine air intake?

Speaking of dyno's. Here is a guy who dynoed with both a cone open air intake and the factory airbox. So much for manufacturer of cone filter intakes and their dyno stats.

3BarBoost said the PCM/ECU was calibrated to run best with the factory airbox and if you were going to mod spend your money on the exhaust side. I run AMX's turbo to factory air box pipe, a drop in K&N filter and am still the quickest factory turbo GT (non-nitrous)out there.

The carb Mfg.'s say don't over carb (go to big), the cam Mfg.'s say don't over cam for the engine (bigger is NOT always better), 3BarBoost
said concentrate on the exhaust side...
Yet it amazes me the amount of people that disregard the experts advice and still make the same mistakes as the kids I knew growing up 40 years ago. But that's O.K. as I take great pleasure on beating them on the street or at the track.

OK, so my choices are adams VAK (I have sent him an email)or the amx pipe set up mentioned above. Would anyones opinion change with a new hood? I want to go with either the cowl induction or the ram-air 2 syle. I think I read that one or both have some kind of kit for the air intake systems. Next and more importantly: Does anyone know if either of these are legal on a california car?

steelbluegt ,,it is not the ram air that helps the turbo it is the colder air you get from the opening and the 2" duct you run from the fog light,
also with the amx intake your turbo does not have to suck the air from the air box it flowes freely where as the stock tube is so restricked that the turbo produces more heat and has to work harder, there was a test done on temp of the turbo ,stock and with the amxintake there was about 10 degrees differance and i also did a test on the cooling of the brakes, the drivers side has the duct installed and the pas. side is stock at 80 mph hard stop both sides were about the same temp,,I did 10 test with this and some time the pas side was cooler than the dr side i can tell you the ducts next to the fog light does not cool your brakes. now another test was mpg the amxintake gave me 3.4 mpg more this was done one tank at a time for 5 tanks of gas both with the stock and the amx intake the most i got over the test was 31 mpg with the amxintake and without it the best i gor was 26.7 my adv. with the intake was 26.6 the adv with out the amx intake was 23.2 overall i did this test city and highway for a total of 2180 miles.

I have both the intake and upcharge AMX pipes on my Stage I. Like them alot, but I was wondering as they allow greater volumes of air to flow to and through the turbo, does it take longer to reach the same boost, say 15 lbs., then it does on the smaller restrictive pipes?
