I have heard stories about boost pressure dropping with a larger diameter pipe--2.5 to 3 inches. Think I'd be a little leery about sizing up--would be concerned about problems (possibly a decrease in turbo performance) and voiding the engine warranty. Is my understanding correct or is "bigger piping better for the turbo engine"??? [:I] [:I]

You will lose some backpressure with a larger diameter pipe. You will notice this as a SMALL loss in low end torque. The increased mid to top end power will more than make up for this. Boost will not be negatively affected by this, if anything it allows you to run higher levels of boost more efficiently. That means that increasing the boost on a car with upgraded exhaust will yield higher hp increases than a car with stock exhaust. Why? Because boost is air that the engine has to push out through the piping. The bigger the piping, the less work the engine has to put into pushing it out, and the more power is transfered to the wheels. Let me put it this way: lets say you are out playing sports. Would you rather breath through a straw, or through a piece of tubing? Could you breath through the straw? Probably, but could you run as fast and as far as if you were breathing through the piece of tubing? I dont think so.The same is true for engines. So to answer your question: Bigger is Better.
