I'm wondering what is the biggest tire anyone has been able to put on the stock 03 Turbo wheel? Not too many choices since the wheel is ONLY 6 inches wide. I'm ready for a wider tire. Thanks for any input. |

I was told that a 225/45-17 was the widest that you could go on a stock GT rim and be safe. However I wouldn't do it, it just doesn't give me the level of comfort that I need. This is reason that I am buying American Eagle 192's 17X7 and will run my Nitto Extreme 225/45-17's on them. hope this helps macster

This whole issue of rim widths and tire sizes is quite confusing at times. My Dakota came with 15x6 rims with 235/75 tires from the factory. The Goodyear Wingfoot HP's that I put on my 68 Barracuda specified a minimum rim width of 6" for the 235/60 width tires I bought.

Hey guys my boy works for Discount Tire Co. He just put 245/45/17 gdy Eagle HP Ultra Plus on one here in B.C. Mi, He said that it was a little big he would say that a 235/40/17 will fit fine with no problem.Although it did look much better with the 245. I will be getting the 235's soon.

I was told by the TireRack that the best tire to fit the rim was 215/50-17. I'm looking at the Yokohama ES100. Was looking at the Dunlop FM901 but it has a soft sidewall.

All the tire shops here say cant go bigger than 215, i tell 'em go look at the car its got a 225 on it. one guy told me if you go bigger on the 6"inch rim, the tire wont sit flat on the ground, cause the sides will pull on the bottom making them slightly oval and wear out faster,u have any thoughts on the safety issues of going bigger,I'm afraid on the tire popping off the rim and a high rate of speed if I hit a pothole? Plz respond cause im looking to get them on real soon. TXS Nick ![]() |

on the stock 17X6 i would go with a 215/50
ive tried 215/45s and 225/45s they fit but the 225 are kind of scarry to drive on in corners there was alot of tire flex the 215/50s worked great on the stock rim and wore more evenly on our local Road course then the 215/45s. or 225s that test was on the stock SRT rims, being that the srt sits lower then the cruiser i wont trust anything bigger then 215s on that stock rim the weigh and body roll might make it pop off

I have been running 215/50/17 BF Goodrich KDW2s on my DC4 since I changed out the crappy RSAs at 1500 miles, I now have 16000+ and love the way it handles, I wanted 225s but they would not be safe on a 6" rim, and I like my one of a kind DC4 wheels, also, after some research on Tire Rack's web page, I out found that the tread width, and the section width on the 215/50 KDW2s are the same as the 225/45s anyway.
