I did a physical measurement when I assisted my installer when my new tires were mounted. The stock OEM 17" GT wheels measure 6 1/4" plus wide inside the flanges. The same wheel is used on '03, '04 and '05. I don't know about the '05 convertible "star" or the new '06.
The vert' star rims are 17X7-35. I run 225/45/17 Perelli P Zero Nero. Very nice combo. MUCH improved over the stock badyears. Wierd, 1" wider rims, same size/kind tires stock.

Who's mounted 225/45-17's on the stock 17 x 6" rims?
Also the width of the rim has been debated many times. Concensus seems to be that they width was not 6 inched until the 05's came out with the new wheel. till then it was a 5 inch width.
It tells you exactly the width on your front driver side door. Regular GT rims are 6" since they debuted in '03. The star rims are supposed to be 7" wide, but I can't say from personal experience.

Any Americans in here worry that they've mounted rubber that was
manufactured in a foreign land on their PT? (Note: I've conveniently
eluded the fact that the PT is made in a not-USA place.)

Think a Goodyear tire might fill the bill?

Just asking. Dare to flame.

(Note: I've conveniently
eluded the fact that the PT is made in a not-USA place.) You must mean, "American parts assembled across the southern border because of cheap labor".

Think a Goodyear tire might fill the bill? If you are refering to the stock, OEM tires, that's a big NO. They have proved to be crap. Goodyear makes other tires that are lightyears better.

Just asking. Dare to flame. I'll hold the flames because I don't understand your point.
Have a good holiday.[8]

Just chiming in... I was considering switching to a 225/45 for my stock wheels, but my mechanic talked me out of it. I ended up buying a set of stock sized (205/50) Continental ContiProContacts instead. I got them for about $450 shipped from TireRack and so far I am extremely impressed with them. Traction is excellent, a huge improvement over the stockers, and these things are whisper quite and smooth. I highly recommend them.

2step writes that he doesn't understand my point.

Well, Um..............Let's see...............

Say we citizens continue to purchase tires made outside the USA borders. If you are an employee in one of the domestic manufacturing
plants, then you get laid off because the workload slows or evaporates.

Now those former employees don't have money, and can't buy the stuff
or services that the company you work for makes. It's the true
meaning of "trickle down".

I just believe that we ought to exercise purchasing conscience (though
admittedly, I could be better about it myself). You see, it's a
recession when your neighbor loses his/her job. It's a depression
when you lose yours.

For a sarcastically humorous movie, see:

Click the button for "Big Box Mart".

My soapbox is now broken forever.

I couldn't deduce what your point was because of the vagueness of your first post. The word use and syntax were odd and by your opening statement, you seemed to set yourself apart from "Americans" so I couldn't understand your concern about where our cars or tires came from.

Now that you've been more clear, I can see what your point is and even agree with it. As an example here in Houston where I live, I often make western wear part of my wardrobe and I feel strongly that it should be made in the USA to be "real" western wear. But the stores are stocking more and more foreign made goods. When I want to buy an American flag to display for the holidays, it's almost impossible to find one made in the USA, for crying out loud. It's a sad fact that jobs have been lost here at home and the American worker has bourn the brunt.

So yes, let's not make price the only consideration when purchasing something. Look at where items are made and make that a factor in what you choose to buy, too.
