Who's mounted 225/45-17's on the stock 17 x 6" rims? I've read reports of some who have gone that wide and also read other reports of installers who declined to mount tires that wide on stock rims.
I know it's pushing it to go that wide on stock rims but if you did it, how did it work out? I have a set and am doing my due diligence, first.[:I] |

After much research I decided against the 225/45/17 for my GT stock 17 x 6 rims. Instead, I went with 215/50R-17 tires and found these work quite well--nice profile, better tracking (especially when cornering), and a significantly wider "foot-print" than the stock Goodyears:

I chose the same size as Gary for my Yokos and I am very happy with the look and fitment and handling upgrade over stock tires and size!! I say if you want bigger tires go with after market wheels and you can go as wide and low aspect ratio as your heart desires.

i am running 225/45/17 on the stock rims and have had no problems and they grip way better than any other tire combinations i have tried. [8)] Will post pics for you to see later though.

I just went with 215/45/17 Kuhmo's and like them much better over stock. The extra width is barely noticeable.

215/50/17. A slight increase in diameter and circumfrence but my PT was lowered a little too much in front anyhow and the extra 1/4 inch in diameter gives a little more clearance. I know it doesn't sound like much but it helps. Also fills up the wheel well nicely.

I bought the Avon Tech m500 225/45-17 from the tire rack and brought them to my local Tires Plus to have them mounted on the stock rims. Tires Plus said the side walls were to stiff and they could not mount them so I bought some eight inch wide Borbet rims. I am very happy with the combination, althought I have more than $1000 invested.

I also chose to run 225/45/17 Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's. I had these on my Crossfire as well, and are by far the best tire I've had.

I did a physical measurement when I assisted my installer when my new tires were mounted. The stock OEM 17" GT wheels measure 6 1/4" plus wide inside the flanges. The same wheel is used on '03, '04 and '05. I don't know about the '05 convertible "star" or the new '06.
