Default HELP! a lump on a tire

Hello, i was checking my tires and discovered a lump (about the size of a small half lemon) on the front right tire, it's located just below the edge where the tire makes contact with the ground.

How bad is this?

I need to drive back the 500 miles (we are visiting the wife's family)
the next monday.

Do i need a new tire?

Thanks in advance!

New tire is needed and fast. The steel belts are separating and the air preasue is pulling them apart. Driving further on it will cause a blowout for sure. Not one of those slow leaks; rather one that explodes.

Most tires have some form of warranty for conditions such as this. Mention it when you are tire shopping.

Chip is right on - it would be dangerous to attempt 500 miles on this tire. Check your tire warranty & you may be able to get an adjustment. If not, spring for a replacement anyway. You cannot afford to take a chance on a blowout on the way home...

Thanks Chip, Wait4...

I gonna check the warranty, it's a stock one (well not stock but replaced by the dealer after failing into a hole, both right side tires blew and the rims were broken on jan 2004).

I was checking prices and brands (i think those goodyear aren't that good) the Bridgestone Potenza S03 grabbed my attention but omg! US$320 for a single tire??? i think that's a lot of money!

Tire shooping time!!

Thanks a lot again amigos!

I'd trust the tiny spare before driving anywhere but a tire shop on that "badyear"!

Agree with the others. I'm sure there are worse tires than the Good-for-a-years, but I don't know what they are, and odds are whatever else you get, you're better off. I wouldn't just get 1 tire, get 2 and put the 2 new ones on the front. Shouldn't mix tire brands left-right on a car, and if you only get 1 tire, you'd have to...
SOMETIMES Sears has good deals on tires - get the road hazard warranty.

I had a bump on my front left tire at around 20k miles. Wasn't covered under warranty at all. Got the front two replaced at $185 per. At 40k had my balance checked due to vibrations at any speed. Found that the left front rim was bent. It was moved to the right rear.

Personally, I don't know why everybody knocks these tires, at 40k miles, I still have plenty of tread left, and now I am just due for brakes (Chrysler wanted to do it...no thanks). I guess I am just lucky. I am just hoping for one more 2-4 inch snow fall so I can do reverse donuts before I replace my brakes!

You paid $185.00 per tire!!!! For 2 front stock PT tires? Sounds like you got ripped off. That's sounds more like the price of a high performance, low profile tire. I paid $125.00 each for my 18" tires at Discount Tires. The smaller stock tires should not cost you as much as you paid.
