Default Shock upgrade

I went to a few local dealers to see if the part numbers for the shocks were the same on the n/a & GT. They are not. So this should mean they are diff. I just called to Tire Rack to inquire about the KYB Gr2 shocks they have listed. The part numbers are the same for the GT and n/a. B.Stockum has a deal going on for some shocks but hasn't gotten back to me yet if they fit the GT or not. Thought I would check you folks out before i hit him up with another email. I REALLY need 'em before CTF3. Thanks in advance![?]

Kevin I was running this setup on my "old" cruiser. It has a much quicker rebound shock but unless the road is very bumpy it reacted /rode the same as stock . The reason the part number is the same for turbo/na is that theses shocks are eurospec and the eurospec cruisers had a 1" drop from the factory compared to the american na cruiser. (PS that's what Wyckoff sells as it suspension setup-eurospec shocks/struts/ springs)

KYBs are woefully weak (may NOT be any better than your stock shocks), save your $$ and get a real shock... Konis @ $500 for a full set.

Not to be critical, but I have to agree about the KYB's. I would not spend the money, sorry. You will be much happier with a set of adjustable shocks like Koni's or maybe Tociko makes one for this car, not sure. Those are the two that I have used on other cars. Being able to adjust both compression and rebound really allows for the best ride and handling dial-in.

Just my $0.02

Cal and Kirby you're both probably right about KYB but some of us are budget minded . I can put on 5 sets of KYB's to a single of Koni's. Having run KYB it's infinately better than stock . But truth be known I couldn't afford Koni's before and probably won't ever. If it costs less than $200.00 for good springs why should we have to pay over $500.00 for premuim stocks/struts?

The reason that the dampers are so much more expensive:
1) This is the most technically sophisticated part of your suspension, it can and will totally transform the handling characteristics of your car. Less bumpy ride, better panic and high speed manuverability.
2) You will NEVER have to replace a good damper, you will most assuredly replace a weak one( total cost is all the shocks + all the install charges + all the hastle).
3) The same reason you bought a GT and not a cheapie PT!!
3)

Sorry about the sloppy message previous.

You may have a manifacturer's OE brand of Tokico now on your GT, not their adjustible, but an ok shock. KYB would just be a latteral move.

(I once traded out a set of Boge shocks on my 944 for KYB.. I have NVER been so dissapointed...ended up puting in Bilsteins and WOW what a difference).

Bilstein, Eldebrock, and Tokico have not released their performance shock for the PT yet(since the mounts are the same they will not differentiate the GT).

Only Koni (best quality on the market) twin tube(best technology)low pressure Nitrogen gas stabilised. If you have springs(Eibach)you will have a sports car beater for sure, and a heavenly road cruiser!

Well Kirby here's where I will have to disagree with you. Since I had been running KYB for six months with lowered suspension ,larger sways and a strut bar I can tell you the GT's shocks aren't up to KYB's standard. How I can say this is I recycled all the aftermarket suspension components from my '01 and installed them on my GT. I don't have the KYB's or a lowered . My GT needs springs /shocks to get to the level of handling I enjoyed on my '01. If the stock shocks act like this I know they'd be terrible lowered . So since I need both springs and shocks to get to the next level I would still probably go KYB again ,that is unless I win the lottery or something. There's a big difference between $300.00 and $700.00 in my checkbook. [^]

Wasn't being critical as I said, that was just my personal experience/observation/preference. I certainly understand the need for thrift. I just save up a little longer for them.
