Default new tires on an 03' GT turbo

Hey guys,

I was just wondering what the ideal tire size is for grip on the GT Turbo 2003. I have 215/50/17 cooper weathermasters on there for the winter and i ran my stocks out earlier this year. Im going to invest in a new set of tires, can i get away with 225's? is that the best size or should i stick with the 205's? I was thinking with the new Stage 1 that will be in there ill need something pretty grippy so i wont spin, IE. goodyear eagle f1's or something. Any suggestions would help
thanks
Mike

There are lots and lots of threads on this topic, do a search.

I have 215/45/17 on stock GT rims, Dunlop, but BFGoodrich g-Force are good too, they both handle my Stage I PT just fine. I think if you want a wider tire than 215 you probably should get a wider rim. Maybe some people have gotten away with more than 215 on the stock rims, but it seems like it is not recommended.

Good luck!

I just bought 215/45/17 KUMHO Ecsta ASX and it felt like a new car! They are very smooth and the stearing was amazing, like there was a new type added. Never has the car steared that easy. I got 40,000 miles out of the OEM Goodyears, but with the rain lately I didn't want to push it. At $110 per tire vs Goodyears @ $185/tire the Kumos were not bad, and they had a ZR speed rating.
