Default Yokohama yk520 feedback

Discount Tires / Americas Tires sells the Yokohama YK520s. These are high performance all season tires with a 60K warranty. Anyone have and feedback on them.

I got 30K miles on my OEM RSAs and about 40K on my Kumho ASXs. I understand that this is pretty good wear for both tires. I guess I am easy on them. Who knows, maybe I can get 70-80K on the Yokos. If so, it is well worth their extra cost.

Overall economy (tread life, fuel economy) are going to be more important to me than cornering performance or weather performance. Low noise is important too as I conduct a lot of business while driving. I still want an M&S rating though for those occasional forays into the mountains. Other suggestions on tires that offer good economy are welcome.

well, it may be a bit late for a response to this one but...

I put the YK520 on my car and if I would have known how much better they are then the RS-A junk that was on there, I would have done it the first day I bought it.

excellent in the rain, goes through snow like a snowmobile.

I also have the drilled/slotted front and rear rotors.

grabs the road excellent (for a pt cruiser anyways)

and the 225/45/17 I put on look way tougher (again, tough for a PT) than the stock 205/50/17 that was on it.

I have not had them on long enough for an evaluation on tread life, but I am pleased with the overall tire itself.

I got 25k on the factory Eagle RSA's before I switched to the YK520's (225/50/17) @ $600+ or -.

Great tire wet, dry and in the corners but not worth a crap on milege.

I've got 45k now and it's time for a new set all around. The treadwear rating is a 520 on the sidewall but there is no way that could be true. Discount's web site says 60k warranty so I guess I need to call them and figure out whats up.

OEM RS-A's went 29k and were junk the last 3k - ContiExtreme's almost made 46k and had some left. 520's have been on for a couple of months and "mostly city" driving has raised MPG from 18+/- to 20+/-. Have not been on a long enough road trip to offer opinion - Conti's delivered a consistant 24.6 on multi-k runs. (Stage 0 03GT auto @ 77k)

I had 40k miles on Kumho Exta's, and still had 5k left on them. I bought the YK520's in the same size 205/50/17. I noticed the YK520's were smoother riding, but didn't grab or corner as well as the Kumho's. I wish I would have stayed with the Kumho's!

Just moved up to 17" wheels from 15" and had the YK520's on for a couple of weeks now. These tires handle so much better than the stock Goodyears, it's night and day. Although, going to a lower profile tire does help in this regard.

Now I don't drive my PT hard especially in the turns but on the straights during my weekend drives between Sac and San Jose, the PT rides very smoothly and just feels safe going between 75-80mph. Oh, how I wish I had the turbo model...

Anyway, since I haven't had these tires for a thousand miles yet, I can't say anything about the wear. But so far overall, I'm really liking these tires.

Have had 520s for 6 months now and they are probably the best tires I have had. I thought the price was right for a good tire also.

Cool Re: Yokohama yk520 feedback

I've got Kumho Exta SPTs on soonercruiser....225 45/17s
We've got about 40K on them...and even after flat-siding the compond to avoid an accident, I've got a couple of seasons of tread left. Performance is excellent!
But - they are a bit noisy!

Hmm, I took the RSA junk off when i first got my car. I put BF Goodrich A/S KDW super sports on it, and Ive put 10,000 miles on them so far, and they are awesome. They stick to the road, car handles like a corvette. They arent noisy, and the tread pattern is awesome. I also went with 215/50/17s

As for yokohamas, they are the preferred brand of tractor trailer tires around here, and last a load of miles. They are good tires.
