Default Tires for My GT

I'm shopping around for tires for my 2004 PT GT. The standard 205/50/17 is a hard tire size to find in my area for a decent price. One tire dealer suggested 215/45/17 as an optional size. Would this optional size work on the GT?

Yes that tire will fit on the stock 17X6 rim and you could also try 215/50/17

I'm running 215/50/17 on my car. It's SLIGHTLY larger than stock, but only makes a 1MPH additional difference at 60MPH, so not enough to worry about. It's also about $20 for any model tire than the more expensive 205/50/17.

Falken you mean? Yes, I'm running them as well. This is my second set of Falken. After trying many different tires over the last several years, Falken Ziex are my favorite sub-$100 tires by far. The 912's I have now I'd consider ever better than the 512's I've had in the past.

my favorite tires is the Kumho MX
they got good grip and long Track life

Kumho Ecsta MX

but ive been using the Michellin MXM4s
because i get them cheap ($30 each)
and they have good grip, long track life, and great on dirt.

Michelin Pilot HX MXM4

i went 2-3 AutoXes and 1 Roadcourse with a set of MXM4s and i went through 9 full sets last year

When we burn off my wifes current Goodyear Eagles
or get her new rims were gonna put the Kumhos on them.

After my stock Goodyears, I bought the Kumho Ecsta MX. I needed new ones after only getting approx. 36,000 miles on them. They were expensive but I LOVED THEM...talking about gripping the road/no spinning! I was quite dissatisfied with the mileage tho'.

Now I have the Yokohama YK520 215/50/17. These are nice...but I freakin' paid $715.00 for them (Discount's warranty included). The manufacturer's warranty is 60,000 miles out of these suckers or your money back (for the miles not driven if tread goes out).

Check 'em out.

thats a very hard tire can you even grip with it????

and 36K out of the MXs is pretty good for regular street driving!!!

My self and a few others that use them were getting 500-1000 depending on how hard we were pushing the car in corners on our local Road Course

the Spec Miatas running those tires were running them all the way to cords
and were still getting good grip.

Yeah, it grips well, however, not as well as the Kumhos.

I agree with Nevin. 36K miles out of a tire ain't shabby. You shouldn't EXPECT more than 40K out of any tire with a treadwear rating under 400.

I got 30K out of a set of a set of Falken Ziex including 4 - 15 minute sessions at a high speed lapping day and a few autocrosses. I was happy since they were only 330 treadwear.
