I have an 03 PT GT with 60K miles. Is it true that the front rotors cannot be resurfaced and they have to be completely replaced?
This is what my dealer is telling me. They said the rear can be re-surfaced but not the front. |

Are they telling you that without looking at them? At 60K it's a good chance you can't re-surface them but if they are telling you that without looking at them. Get a second opinion
The front rotors are thin and if there's a lot of wear (don't go by mileage) then yes, they can't be resurfaced because they won't meet thickness specs when they are worked on. But they do have to be measured first. Most cars use the front brakes 80% of the time so the front wear out 3 times as fast as the rears. Mine were below specs at 56K so I went with performance pads and drilled rotors.

No, they actually did look at them. Thanks CREWZIN. That makes sense now. It could be that there's a lot of wear and they can't be re-surfaced.
Any idea how much it would cost to replace? I got a $399 price quote for the front. The rear ones can be re-surfaced and the price quote I got for that is $268. |

Sorry, prices vary too much depending if you go to a dealer or private mechanic or Midas. Most places try to sell you parts you don't need so see if you can get a recommendation from a neighbor or somebody at a local cruse in.
Also pads come in different categories and the better they are (usually) the more expensive they are. Ceramic pads are good and don't leave any dust on the wheels but are probably the most expensive. I put Hawk Performance pads on mine with no dust either and have a good write-up.
