Default Koni Shock ?

Do they come from the factory adjusted firm or soft? I've never used/had adjustable shocks before. The installer threw away all documentation. Thanks

Here's a pdf file showing how to adjust your Koni's that you can read: http://www.koni-na.com/pdfcatalogs/KONI004Catalog.pdf

The Koni PT shocks are a twin tube design and is usually shipping with the minimum (comfort) settings. Still need to check the adjustment to make sure both sides are the same or is adjusted to your specs before installation. The rears can be readjusted fairly easily, but the front shocks would require disassembly of the strut to adjust the shock. Too bad the shocks don't have an external adjuster like some other shock applications.

ADJUSTMENT AT THE TURN OF A HAND

Many of the KONI Sport dampers are externally adjustable by means of a knob, so they need not be disassembled from the car. The fine-tuning of the damping forces to personal driving style and to different driving conditions is therefore not more than a matter of seconds. The best of fine-tuning technology straight from the world of Formula 1 racing.

(Verbage directly from the Koni North America site, for Koni Sport-Yellow)

The white "tuning" knob is on top of the strut. Rears adjusted by collapsing the shock (a little difficult on a new shock) and turning the body 180 degrees to the next "click". Shocks arrive adjusted to softest setting.

The rear shocks come with a built in bump stop that you will appreciate if you have lowered your PT!

Thanks, I only have the fronts so far. Those damn solinoids(sp) on the pass side get in the way of everything it seems.[xx(] Looks like the knob will barely fit. Thanks again guys![?]

Do the PT Cruiser GT Turbos really come with Koni adjustable shocks? I heard that they were planned for the GT but I didn't really think that they made it to production. I just picked up my GT Turbo last night and I noticed that they didn't give me my adjustment knob. I've got a spare (ordered one from Chrysler a few years ago as a spare from a 98 Neon ACR for my '85 GLH Turbo) knob and I know how to work them but I don't recall seeing the adjustment fitting on the strut.

Mind you I haven't read the owners manual yet, I've been having too much fun cruising around town! Can anyone confirm that the GT came with the Koni's stock? Or are we talking aftermarket upgrades?

Thanks,
Marc

PT Turbo comes with an OEM Tokico shock, good, but not anywhere near the quality of the Koni. The Koni Sport (Yellow) is their best regular shock (they do make some real nice hi-tech racing shocks also).

Hi Kirby,

Thanks for the info. I've got a set of the Koni's already for my Omni so I know the virtues of Koni's already. I've got the "hi-tech" racing shocks on the Omni and boy to they ever make a difference. The rears are double adjustable (independent bump and rebound settings) and were re-valved for double the adjustment range. They are perfect for drag racing as they pretty much make the back end SOLID!

I think that a lot of people agree that a superior shock is the best thing that you can do to upgrade your car's handling.

Congrats on the Koni's!

So what do you think of the ride? Do the Koni's stiffen things up a little? Does it handle better? How's the ride?

Inquiring minds want to know.
