Default oh my! body roll

damn took a corner at a bit of speed today, now i know what the fuss is about for the rear sway bar, i scared myself, felt like it was going to tip over.

this same turn at proably the same speed in my old dakota truck (sport with suspension mods) didn't scare me at all.

Look out for small bumps or cracks in the road during high speed curves. They'll lift the entire rear end off the ground, and throw ya for a loop.

Punch

I hear you, I'm getting front and rear sways installed on Monday. My car is lowered with the Eibach springs, has Koni's all the way around, but it still doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy about the handling. For example, my 97 Voyager handles a lot better than my autostick PT. (I just feel more comfortable making manuevers with the van) As for my wife's 03 protoge 5, its no contest. But all of that should change Monday.

macster - Are you getting Suspension Techniques? Those seem to have a nice powdercoat vs. the factory nonpaint! I think they also come with the rear chassis links(?) and are easy to install. Let us know.

Do you have any comments on the Koni's? How's the adjustablilty feature? How did install go? Pricing? With my Eibachs, I get some floating at speed since the OEM shocks are out of their normal operating range. I take it Koni's solve the oscillation issue?

BTW: IMHO, going to the aftermarket to get better bars - and getting them NOW - seems to be the thing to do. My '01 came with F/R sways. I was under the car last night and noticed how rusty they are. The front link bushings are cracking and the rear bar looks tiny compared to the 7/8 S.T. piece. And at around $240 for a set, it seems reasonable especially if you're missing the rear one anyway!

Do you guys have the front top mounted shock tower brace? That made a world of difference for cornering on mine and now they make them for the GT's. You have to do little work for them to fit the GT, but it's worth it. I have the Eibach lowering pro kit, and that and the top brace gave my non-turbo a great feeling on high speed corners.

front end is ok, it's the back end that's a fat pig on a slip and slide...ugh.
Need a set of sways, but have to save a little and research.

Nope Eibachs. I'm not doing my installs. My tools "walked" away.

Do you have any comments on the Koni's? How's the adjustablilty feature? How did install go? Pricing? With my Eibachs, I get some floating at speed since the OEM shocks are out of their normal operating range. I take it Koni's solve the oscillation issue?

The Koni's are fabulous, but only in conjuction with the sway bar. The Koni's are good without the sway bar(s) the car handles fantastic now that I have the front sway bar in. The Koni(s) did solve the bottoming out issue, but I still felt like I wasn't in control with the car, now its a totally different matter. I can't wait till I get the rear bar put in. (my install guy didn't order all of the ex stuff that I told him, but he knows now. I had to take the car for "road" run. But Friday I am getting the rear bar installed.

I'll add more comments later when I get the rear bar installed.

I HAVE AN OEM REAR SWAY BAR AND IT WORKS JUST FINE, A LITTLE WEIRD AT FIRST, IT NOW UNDERSTEERS A BIT MORE ON INITIAL TURNING, I'M ADDING A SHOCK TOWER BRACE TO TIGHTEN THE FRONT END TOO.

ptgtcb,

I have Eibach's trimmed properly with the stock tokiko springs. There is a lot of suspension travel, but since i had a more stable exhaust I haven't had a new problems with contact even on hard bumps. Eventually i'd look at new shocks tho. I'm doing the strut tower bar and sways first.
