Rob, I understand that but if you made a gasket from an innertube or something similar it wouldn't affect anything negatively . In all honesty I really think that since all of us don't experience the groan that it's something to do with the shock tower sheetmetal actually flexing with the addition of the strutbar. Especially since it's heard in the cabin as opposed to being felt in the steering wheel.

Maybe the strut tower brackets were a little out of wack when welded, maybe the strut bar is a little short, I don't know. What I do know is that not everyone has the groan so maybe there are defective ones out there like mine and bigguigt's. The bars are not adjustable and it wouldn't take much of an error to put to much stress on the struts. I know I had to really pull the bar to get the second bolt through it and the bracket.

It may be the sheet metal of you car. They are put together with + or - specs and you may be on the high or low end of it. I know my strut bar has slight rub marks in it from the two dimples of the heat shield on the under side of the hood. Right where the dimples for the washer outlets are. Called and talked with them and was told this was seen befor on a in house GT and no other reports. I asked if the bar could be off and was told no way. When you look at my hood to body gap it is very tight, others I have seen are loose. Not much to do for this problem. I suspect not much to do for yours either.

Okay, but measure it anyway, to establish the baselines

Can you post a pic of the area that you are talking about?

My BTG strut bar is waiting to be installed; I am having difficulty finding a torque wrench.

Sooo...we have various rubs and creaks....hmm...nicht gut. Is anyone having this problem with stock suspension?

Has anyone tried reving the engine at the throttle, hood open, to see what might be causing the noise. When I first installed my BTG Strut I noticed a "groan" metal against metal noise when coming to a stop and at the start of acceleration. When I popped the hood I noticed the strut was rubbing against the black metal throttle brace. The bar had a slight downward bow which gave zero clearence to the engines throttle brace. Seeing that this was a bad thing I removed the strut tower assembly, added six washers, one on each bolt to heighten the clearence, and slightly bent the strut bar from the center working outward until the slight downward bow became a slight upward bow. Replaced the strut bar as per BTG instructions, bolts torqued to 25lbs, wiped the fingerprints off the shiny new billet aluminum. It's been a day and I have not heard a peep from the Strut tower bar since. What was happening in my case and I suspect with many of you as well is, when the engine accelerates and decelerates the torque rocks the engine backwards and forwards; this is why the black throttle body brace has a 1 inch scratch and my strut tower bar has a 1/8th inch groove in it, hence the narly noise coming from under the hood. Hope this tid bit of info helps, and for me I can now take those corners 5 miles faster than before
