Default Shaking Stearing Wheel

I have a stearing wheel that seems to vibrate a lot, especially from 60 to 70 mph. The alignment seem to be good. I can let go of the wheel and the car will track straight, no swerving. Any ideas or suggestions to voice to my dealer?

Thanks

I had the same problem until I had the Rack & Pinion replaced for the "nylon rubbing sound". After the R&P replacement both problems went away.

You will also get a shake in the steering wheel if your front tires are out of balance. Might have that checked also. A shake at just some speeds is more likely to be tires than alignment.

Does your wheel shake when you apply the brakes? If so you probably have warped rotors. This can also cause the shakes at certain speeds if the warp is bad enough as the rotor rotates and comed in contact with the brake pads. Otherwise you may have thrown a wheel weight. HAve the balance checked out.

Good point Cal Cruzer. Warped rotors are a BIG problem with Ford vans and trucks. I haven't heard much about warped rotors on PT's but it is certainly a good thing to check. Usually, warped rotors start vibrating at 65 or 70 mph and as they get worse, the onset speed starts to lower somewhat.

I agree with nbr10, have your rack and pinion checked, this has been a problem on many PT's. If that's the problem it's covered by warranty.

you running stock rims?
If you have aftermarkets with spacers that can sometimes be a cause

Thanks for all your input,
My car is going into the shop next week. I need to have some body work done, I have a nice big dent, busted tail light and wrecked bumber, some idiot pulled a hit and run.
I also need to have the the oil filter mount replaced. I had an oil change done AT THE DEALER and the rookie doing the change, bent the fins on the filter holder and had oil leaking every where. I was able to help him seal the filter, but I now need a new set up.
I am leaning towards the idea of having the tires rebalanced, but I will be sure to mention some of the other input you have given to me.

Thanks to all
