Default Speaking of springs

Is their any difference in the brand of springs, say BTG vs gold line, or ???? I see price difference up to $100 per set. I like the BTG exhaust, does that mean I will like the springs. ? Thanks Gary

Gary, Good luck with your choice. I was just looking around my favorites web sites and came upon BTG, Progress, Gold Line, Blue Line and Eibach. I'm sure people here on this forum have used them all. The biggest thing I can recommend is that make sure they say that the springs are "progressive" which means they keep the same characteristics as the OEM springs but allow the PT to sit lower. Look at the write-up on all the springs your thinking about and see how far they drop the cruiser. BTG for example drops the front 1 3/4" and the rear 1 1/2 so your PT will keep the same "rake" (front lower) as it came from the factory. I used the Eibach Pro Kit and it lowered the rear more than the front so the whole car is lowered and straight.

I used 1.3" front and rear as I did not want a kidney buster as my truck was. I used Suspension Techniques. I am very pleased, I wanted to keep the rake, and did not want to be too low and drag. These worked for me.

Gary, I have purchased the suspension techniques springs, but do not have them on yet. I have heard good things about them and the drop is even and minimal.

This would acutally give you an additional .25" of rake. An even drop all round would keep the same rake. Some springs drop the rear more to even it out all 'round and get rid of the rake.

Hey Gary, I just put a set of GoldLines on mine and really like them. Major improvement in handling and the ride quality has hardly been affected. They dropped the car 1.5" up front and 2" at the rear. You can see before/after pix here

Let me say the obvious just in case. The more one lowers the car the more the ride is affected. The lower your car is from the pavement the more carefull you have to be about drive approaches, dips, parking lot wheel stops and curbs. If you hve snow on the road then you need most, if not all, of the height of the stock Cruiser. I have has two cars lowered one Mustand one Alpha Romeo and both handled much better and rode like stock but they were progressive springs and lowereing was done in moderation.

I think there is a great difference in the different types of springs out there. I thought paying less for a set of progress springs would give me everything I was looking for... not the case, I have since switched to Eibach and paid more. As they say you get what you pay for. The progress has an aggressive ride and the eibach is more like stock with an edge.
