Default Tire size??

Ok you tire experts out there...Just ordered a new set of wheels, 18x8s. I would like to run 225/40x18 front and 245/40x18 rear (I know can't rotate) my question is...will the different sizes cause problems with the ABS, Traction Control, & speedo reading?? Also, anyone know how much the Chrome wheels on our GT weighs? Thanks

Realizing that each brand and model of tire may vary somewhat, the standard GT tire and the 225/40R18 are virtually identical in rolling circumference and thus revolutions per mile. Since the 225/40's would be on the front, your speedometer would be right on and the traction control should not be adversely affected.

Now for the rear. The 245/40R18 is approximately .6" larger diameter and is approximately 2.6% fewer revolutions per mile. This is near the edge for the anti-lock brakes. I have heard 3% as the maximum variance allowable for the anti-lock brakes but have no confirmation on that. If that is true then you would be OK on the ABS also.

Sorry but I don't know what the weight of the GT rims is.

Thanks IRPT...I e-mailed you a question regarding your DI taillights a little while back. I now have those thanks again. Getting back to the wheels... I bought a set of Boyd's Smoothie II's, in 18x8. Those Goodyear F1's might be a choice, or Yoko AVS ES 100, or Bridgestone RE750. I know every one has different needs, wants and desires in tires, but what would you guys recommend out there??

What is the width of the stock GT 17" chrome rims? I like the stock rims but am looking to up size the tires a little.

mcruz,

The stock GT wheel is only a measly 6" wide. Not much upsizing to do. 215 is about the maximum width you can go on this wheel.
