Default Did you cut your bump stops? If not...read on

When I installed my springs I neglected to cut my rear bump stops. If you didn't cut yours either, it is worth doing. It just takes a couple of minutes. They just pop out and it and cut like butter with a hacksaw.

My springs lowered my car about 1.5". I still had about 1" of clearance between the bumpstop and the landing. Everytime the suspension would compress going over a dip or quick rise, the backend would rebound a lot, especially at freeway speeds. The rear shocks are just not valved for that much rebound. Once I trimmed them about 1.25" this weekend it is no longer a harrowing experience. I know the stops don't look like they would have much rebound but apparently they do. It is much more in control. I highly recommend doing this if you haven't already with your drop springs.

I am sure that this was obvious to many but I have read some posts from people that didn't cut them like me. This is for them!

I have a few questions on the 1.5" Front & 2.0" rear drop. To your experience, was it worth lowering the PT? Did you have to make alot of drastic changes in your daily driving, i.e. ( driving angles at minor dips and inclines)?

I did not cut mine after having my GoldLines installed and haven't really noticed any problems. I do have a mild clunk (for lack of a better word) if I go over, for instance, a parking lot speed bump even fairly slowly, but then only if I hit it perfectly square with the rear end. Like I say, it's pretty mild, but it is there. Maybe trimming the bumps stops would help, and I suppose it couldn't hurt?

By the way, you say they "just pop out"...can you be more specific? I mean, do I just jack up the car and pull 'em out like loose baby teeth???

Oh, and PTGT boy, GoldLines lowered my car 1.5" front and 2" rear. Yep, I have to be a bit more careful at certain inclines 'cause now I can get the little plastic thingy under the bumper to scrape pretty easily. Was going to get one of those pretty little chrome covers for it from Moss, but now I figure why bother?

No drastic changes in my every day driving. Steep driveways I take slow or at an angle. You have to watch high curbs in front of your car when you pull into a parking place. I just don't pull in as far as I used to. Yes, it was well worth lowering my PT. Both the wife's and my PT are lowered with Eibachs. Handling is much better, especially after installing the strut bar. Aftermarket sways are on the agenda, too.

You have to watch high curbs in front of your car when you pull into a parking place.
With the rear lowered, you also need to watch those same curbs when backing into a parking space, especially if you have a hitch installed.

I had the same clunk when I first lowered mine. Look in the passenger side wheel well. You will see the plastic fill tube coming down from the fuel fill intake. For some reason it started hitting on the side after I lowered it. I used a zip tie to hold it in place and it fixed the problem. This worked for another member here too after I told him about it. Give it a try.

Yes, just grab them and pull. They will pop out like baby teeth. Very easy. Then they just push back in. There is one particular bumb/rise that I drive over every day on my way to work and there is just not as much "jounce" hitting it at speed. You may or may not notice the difference but I do very much.

Yeah, you have to be carefull but the handling difference is worth the extra caution.

That was me Cal Cruzer. I did the same as you, zipped tie it.

I just went out and looked at this....sure enough, I see what you're talking about. Zip tie applied, I'll let you know after I drive it again tomorrow. Thanks for the tip - I love this place!

How much did you cut off? I haven't really noticed anything I don't like, so for now I'm inclined to leave well enough alone.

Well since I just did this, springs, shocks, struts, I may have to revisit this. I have to say I cut my stops on the struts when I did them, but at the rear I Left it alone. I never have anyone in the rear or a lot of weight so I got to have someone sit in it and will look again at cutting them. But I only went -1.3" f/r. I do know what you mean on the rebounding though, I felt it in my truck when it was hauling stuff like tanbark. Hey some of the kids cars I have seen, have no bump stops!
