Interesting facts that surfaced in talking with SEVERAL brake dealers.

4) Buying from a dealer is cheaper than direct from the manifacturer.
This is done intentionally by most manufacturers. The reason is two-fold; 1) You do not undersell your distributors, which tends to piss them off, and then they go bye-bye, and/or 2)You maintain a defined value for your product.

I agree about the race capability of the SSBC system, but you have to look at what you want out of an upgrade. The SSBC entire kit is a little over $700. Stop Tec sells a two pot solid rotor system for $1,200. Willwood runs well over the $1,200 dollar mark without extras, and Brembo wants from $1,600 to over $2,000. This is why I did not ask SSBC to paint the calipers fire engine red. It isn't about how it looks as much as how it deals with a problem area in my PT, related to my personal driving expectations.

I did put Brembos on my Porsche Turbo because it tops out at 170, my PT will never be there;(I won't put it there).

If your going to do your brakes, do them right. When was the last time you did 170 in your porsche. If it is that imprtant, I'd part with the extra 500 and get the two piece rotors with the 4 psiton calipers.
Esp brakes,...I'd do it right the first time, cause if it gets f'd up it's gonna cost u far more to fix the mess.

The SSBC system is a viable upgrade for an increased horsepower move that can use the stock master cylinder (4 piston calipers move so much more fluid they require a larger and expensive master cylinder and booster to get the most out of them).

It's hard to make out your message Redman, but it seems that you think the two piece disc and the 4 piston caliper are the best rout?

I tried, and could not get anyone selling upgrades of that nature to commit. The Wilwood folks came close, then called back after I ordered and gave a new higher price ($1,000.00) and a much delayed delivery date (months). The SSB folks only said; "Try them, if they don't fit send'em back (The units they were sending were for the original non turbo PT).

This may be a frustrating area for a while.

I checked around for "super nutzo" and found this company in Phoenix: http://www.tceperformanceproducts.co...Kits/SRT4.mgi2

I believe PT = SRT for both front & rear brakes. TCE has a thread on srtforums here: http://www.srtforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=118

This all sounds good, but I went directly to Wilwood and they did not have a setup for the PT Turbo. I even tried to place an order, they called me back and said 6 months and $1000.[8)]

Why won't the kit fit the turbo?

Our wheels clear a larger caliper and the non turbo kits are designed to fit a PT with smaller wheels and calipers so I do not see any fitment problem with our wheels?

The Stop tech kits will fit the PT Turbo so why not the wilwood? I think the stop tech kit is a better set up anyway and offer 4 different kits!

Maybe we could do a group buy?

I think it is the engineering on the adapter bracket for the caliper. Wilwood has such a fantastic deal on a top of the line 4 piston caliper because they use the same caliper for hundreds of applications. same with the two piece disc, they make 3 generic hats for the most common 5 bolt patterns and two sizes of replacable discs.

Crunch time comes with the offset and distance to space the caliper using the stock mounting holes. This small adapter piece for each side takes all the engineering, and also has to be CNC programmed for manifacture.

I am sure they will have it soon but, to their credit, I don't think they want to release anything that is not up to their quality standards.

Until then the only affordable exact stock replacement I could find was the EBC Green Stuff/Red Stuff Pads and their replacement drilled and slotted discs.[8)]

The challenge with the StopTec system is price, their 2 piston is well over $1000, and the 4 piston is even more.

EBC setup is $270, and after a week with their kit, I am suitably impressed for street driving. When I put on the 215 Yoko ES tires I felt that the stock brakes could not keep up with the grip of the tires, now it feels a little more in balance....the PT now stops noticably better.[8)]

I was asked to come pay you all visit and answer some Q's on this subject.

I sell the Wilwood kit indirectly for the PT as it's the same as the SRT4.
It contains calipers, rotors, hats, pads and brackets.
The kit is priced as a complete kit (no hoses however) and NOT per side.
You can purchase it a number of places as you well know.

I also make a kit for the SRT4 which is a significant bit better than the stock WW part. Beefier calipers, larger pads, wider rotors. It does NOT clear factory wheels as I doubt the StopTech kit does either.

For those on a budget; zoomy 'stuff' pads, bling rotors, and hoses are what I consider a 'brake enhancement' and in no way can be compared to a true brake conversion kit. Not that there is anything wrong with the former, its by far the more popular means of brake modifications. And in truth not everyone can spend $700, let alone $1200-1500. That' understandable.

BTW, there are Wiilwood calipers available fully 'booted' but they are not compliant with their own kit. You'd have to work with a more custom builder as myself to incorporate them if that's your choice.

Happy PT'ing!

If anyone has more questions find me through my profile, I'm not here to spam the board!
