Default High Performance brakes for PT GT

I was looking for a HP Brake pad and a drilled rotor for my PT when I ran across this new company SSB. They seem to be having some impact in the world of rice.

They offer a HP system: two pumper caliper with a 12" slotted rotor for only $725. (About the price of one brembo caliper.)

Any experience out there with this company?

I'll get back with their take on our PT Turbo market!

That's one of the vendors that advertise on this forum. This is a Wilwood 4 piston caliper hat/12" setup. The price is a little cheaper, and it's possible that another vendor may beat that price. It doesn't include braided teflon lines though. I don't know if that's included with the SSBC kit.

SSBC is a well respected company. They're in the import market, but are strong in the domestic/muscle/street rod too. I think if you go with their product you'll be happy with the result. The same goes for Wilwood Engineering. I would look at the features versus price to determine which kit to go with.

And exactly why would you need these? Unless you're making some serious over-the-top HP, I find this a waste of money.

Oh, and by the way, they might void your warranty, and they're not CARB Exempt. []

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I am sure that the Willwood is priced at $625 per side: Total $1250. Both willwood and StopTec have $1200 setups for our PT. The SSB setup includes both sides(slotted and plated) and stainless lines (that's why I thought it was such a good deal....and wanted to get feedback on the 2 piston setup.) I realize that a four piston will out stop a two piston caliper, but since I will not be racing this ammount of improvement might be appropriate.[8)]

Our stock PT has a single piston caliper, and if I am correct only a 10.5" disc.

For the benefit of Tripple: I am looking to replace the front calipers because they are not big enough for the task at hand. I have under 25,000 and the pads have given upon the front. This lets me know that too much heat is being created to have a balanced stoping mechanism. The front brakes give you about 85-90% of your stopping power, so the change should help to reduce brake temps with larger slotted discs and more even pressure by adding a second piston.

I appreciate your humor, but the California version of DEQ doesn't look at brake systems, and since the brake pads are wear items, there never was any warranty.

This is a safety issue that anyone looking at increased horsepower ought to look at![?]

I have ABS and Traction Control (as most PT Turbos do). Has anyone swapped out front brake systems?

I am looking for some first person experience.[8)]

I just put on the CMX1776 ceramic pads for a NA PT on my GT. They are just a tiny bit smaller but fit like a glove. I'll keep my eye out to see how they wear.

The trouble with the slotted rotors on Ebay is that they fit the standard PT, not the Turbo. The turbo was fitted with different rotors, thicker and different offset. I would gladly go with a set of drilled and slotted discs if they were available....sadly, they are not available, yet.

The good news is that our special brake functions (ABS, and Traction Control) work from the spindle, which is the same for all PTs. That means putting on a set of Brembos, Willwoods, or Stainless Steel Brake Co.s will not adversley effect brake function as we know it.

For all the guys that have watched the searing hot metal from the front brake pads eat holes in their wheels....there is a reason for it, your brakes are getting too hot!

I'll keep you posted on the progress with this S.S.B. package.

The S.S.B. folks seem very helpful, the kit includes braided stainless lines, plated grouved 12" rotors, adapters for the new calipers, competition brake pads, and large two piston calipers (I chose to have them just clear coated - could have had them painted.[?]

Does that kit fit the stock GT wheel?

SSBC is a well respected company and I can tell you their products tend to be first draw. Seen their setup on plenty of custom cars and they look real good and work better. Of course no one knows about the PT application cause it is too new. They have a good rep though!
