Default This is just too weird

This morning after I posted my spring problem, a member from our club who had the Eibach rear stabilizer on his car for some time, told me that last night one side of his clamps that hold the bar on broke. This guy is one heck of a mechanic and a perfectionist. He thinks he tighted the clamps too tighht so the bushings don't have enough play when stress or pressure is put on the bar when turning. He also has the first set Eibach sways made for the cruisers, and it didn't come with a kit, which they now include in all their sets from what I'm told. Gary

One, the stock clamps are designed for a smaller bar and rubber bushings so they may fail, damn! It is important to tighten everything in the loaded position and to make sure you use the grease they supplied only on the inner portion of the bushing so the bar moves in the bushing.
I just got an eibach kit but it did not come with the end links and clamps?

Just FYI:

The Eibach rear anti-sway bar installation kit is sold separately.

The "clamps" are just torqued into the axle at 45ft-lbs and the end link bolts at 48ft-lbs. Unfortunately anything can and will happen. Have helped install various makes of rear bars without anybody reporting a clamp failure or having a problem using the stock clamps with the new bushings and bar. I would suspect the failure would be at the bottom of the clamp where the 2 clamp halves slip together and fit into the slot in the axle. Personally, I don't see how even overtightening the bolt would affect or add stress since the clamp halves are basically squeezed flat against each other at the top and the locking tab is bent over to hold everything together before installation on the axle. I'm sure he greased the bushings liberally otherwise the bar would be squeeking a lot, long before the clamp failed.

I agree with Sci fi on that one.
I installed my Eibach sways myself but used OEM endlink assembly.
No problems, the way the bushing retainer is shaped, you can't really overtighten it. I finished tightening the bolts as recommended with the suspension under load. Whilest hard to do, esp with the OEM bushing retainer, I have had no problems.
