IMO, If you lower your PT and do not trim the stock bump stops you are going to bottom on the bump stops before you ever bottom out the shocks, even the stock shocks! If the tokicos, konis, bilsteins or KYBs have more travel the suspension will still hit the stock stops before they bottom out. If they are so stiff, which I doubt, to where they will not hit the stock stops you are in for a very rough ride! Now, if the the aftermarket shocks provide their own bump stops or are built into the internals then you are still effectively trimming the bump stops as you would with the stock shock set up and if the aftermarket shocks have internal stops then you had better remove the stock bump stops. If your lowering springs did not come with instructions to trim the stops then I would contact the manufacturer to make sure they do not recommend trimming them. It also would depend on the amount you lower the vehicle as to how much if any is required, but, it is only logical that if you lower the vehicle ride height then you are reducing the distance to the stock stops and will hit them much sooner than when at the stock ride height. I really feel that those of you that have lowered your cruiser and did not trim the bump stops as recommended are compromising the handling of your vehicle! |

For the Eibachs the trim cutting was in the rear wasnt it? Didnt do it myself but the installer follwed the directions. I have the front lowerd 1.5" and the rear 2". My problem w/ bottoming out is in the front. Dont have any problems in the rear. Happens to me on medium bumps in the raod. Going at reduced speeds too. Is this something to just get used to? This is my first lowerd vehicle. Its a learning process.

Sounds as if they did not trim the front stops, but that is only an assumption and I am not saying they did not. It is just that I don't bottom out on anything but large bumps. I install quite a lot of lowered suspensions, most if not all with either koni or bilstein shocks which either trim, supply new or eliminate the stock bump stops. The ride is quite different, firm and you feel most everything in the road. The stock shocks are definately not as firm as aftermarket shocks which makes it that much more important to trim the stops correctly.
With the eibach spring you are to trim the bottom of the front bump stop 31mm and the bottom of the rear bump stop 15mm. Any other spring set that drops the ride height approximately 1.6 front and 2.0 rear I would trim the same amount. |
