Default SSR Competition Rims

Has anyone tried using these rims? I'm interested in knowing whether it helps performance due to their low weight. In addition, I want to know if they bend pretty easy due to their weight. I plan on purchasing the 17x7.5's (not sure if I want to go to the 18's due to the PT's weight and the low weight on the rims). For now I'll try and check out tire-rack forums on opinons .

Kinda like the SSR. I think, if i rememeber correcty, they are a little pricey. Careful about cast light weight rims. The mass loss could allow easy distortion. Forged light weight rims are far stronger and of much better quality, but that much more expensive.

The SSR's are forged which is a plus! I also want to run these, except I'm going to go 18" and paint the center body color. They also will clear the big brake kits that fit our cruisers. Tires and wheels plus brake kit = $$$$! Trying to save the bread! Good choice PTGT_Boy!

If you like the SSR Competitions, but not the price, check out the 5Zigen RX-6 [ www.tires.com ]. Same look, but almost half the price. I think they are not as light, but, if I remember right, they are only a few lbs more.

I have heard and read good and bad stories concerning the SSR wheels. Some people claim they are like battle tanks while others claim the slightest road imperfections ruined them. Who knows? A member of our PT club has the 16" version on his Limited Edition. He swears by them and he lives in Western PA (a pothole haven).

I plan to go with 235/50/17 tires to give some more rubber cusion on the rims. Tire-rack recommends 235/45/17, but I'm a little hesitant to reduce my profile slightly lower.

The 235/45-17 has very close to the same rolling circumference as the stock 205/50-17 (1.0% difference). The 235/50-17 has a rolling circumference that is 4.7% greater than the 205/50-17. That will adversely affect the computer as well as acceleration. It is not typically recommended to change the rolling circumference by more than 3%.

RubyRed on PTE has those wheels in 16"

A few lbs is a lot when it comes to unsprung weight.
The difference between my 17s and 18s is night and day
18s looks sweet but i dont think ill ever buy a big set like that again, the 17s offer the best performance/looks compromise
