Well, I dont hear most cars squeal when stopping, Just mine and old trucks. The dealer said its caused by rust and its normal for cars to do this. I asked a local brake shop and they said its the rust and ceramic brakes would do the trick.
I dont know much about them. Are they pricey? Do they stop better? Do they squeal? |

ceramic pads work pretty good, no dust.
my brakes squeak alot but they are extremly aggressive. I never heard a peep out of the stock brakes.

Caeramics seem to have the problem of eating rotors. You'll need to do a rotor swap before a pad swap. If you have drums in the rear (this is a GT forum so probably not) get those cleaned and adjusted. But yeah, the stocks ones will squeek if they have a little "morning rust", or if they get hot like city driving with the semi metallic factory material instead of the old asbetos, they will also squeek. The squeek is a sacrifice for cleaner, safer brake pads.

Harder, high performance pads tend to squeal before they get up to operating temperature. Going for a performance pad may put you in this catagory.
I swapped the stockers out at 25K for Green Stuff pads and their slotted and driled discs. Stops on a dime now, but squeals when cold always.[8)] |

[quoteThe dealer said its caused by rust and its normal for cars to do this. [/quote]Not sure what kind of PT you have, but any rust on the rotor would be wiped off with the first application of the brakes. Are you still on the OEM brakes? How many miles? Any other signs of bad brake wear or brake problems? Scorched rotors? Pulling to either side?
