Default New Rims

Most of you probably know that I got new tires a couple of weekends ago. Yesterday I was washing my GT for the first time since I got my new tires and I saw what looked like dirt on my rim near the center hole. I tried to wash it away when I discovered it wasn't dirt at all but that they were paint chips and compression marks. I checked out the other three rims and they all had the same thing. I was not a happy camper! I had bought the new tires at Les Schawb, a tire store chain here in Oregon and Washington. I stopped by Les Schawb on the way to work to show them and I was loaded for bear. I was pissed. When I showed the manager the rims he admitted that they had done it. I asked what we could do about it and he asked whether I wanted four new stock painted mags like I had or if I wanted aftermarket mags. I decided on aftermarket mags and we looked at some. I found some I liked and asked how much they were. They were about $20 more a rim than the stock ones. I told him they cost more than the stock ones and he asked if I liked the aftermarket ones. I said I did and he said, "fine they are yours". He then asked if I wanted them installed right now. Didn't take me long to call my boss and tell him I'd be a little late. One hour later I was driving away with new rims valued at $1117 for free. The new rims are 17x7.5 Alba Type 700 chrome mags.

This is the factory rim

Needless to say I have been stoked all day. [?]

Wow, I just might have to take a drive up the coast next time I'm looking for new tires. That is amazing customer service! While it stinks that they didn't own up to the problem immediately, it's actually kind of surprising that a couple of weeks later they would so quickly admit responsibility. I'm impressed. And happy for you! Those look great!!!!!!!!!!!![8D]

Good for you!! Those are sharp rims and it's to hear about good customer service. I don't live anywhere near there, but I wish some of that would rub off on some of the shops around here (Mid TN)!!

Wow, great rims. I was looking at those too, only at 18s. It's good you posted some pics for us to see how they look on a PT. Do you have some more pics?
BTW, I posted a thread in this forum about non-chrome factory wheels and there didn't seem to be any clarity on why some come in chrome and some don't. How come yours didn't come in chrome?

Mojito,

Chrome wheels are an option. The painted wheels are the "normal" wheel unless you get the chrome wheel option.

No surprise to me that things worked out right for you, Mean Green, as Les Schawb provides outstanding customer service from my experience. Congrats on the great-looking new rims! [8D]
