First off I think 235's are too wide for those 6" stock wheels. Of course if you have wider ones this is a good move although I would go one more size up! Check out tire rack for all season or touring tires for whatever size U want. Last time I checked the Continentals and BFG were good buys in those categories! I would say with stock wheels dont go over size 215's!!

well, I think it may be time to get rid of the ol PT. I am tired of these tires going bad and lack of support from the companies.
Time to get a truck and be done with it. I have to really think about this. |

dtbrks,
Try the Yokohama V4S (not the V4, old model) or BFGoodrich Traction TA (205/55/16). Should be under $100 a piece from the Tire Rack or Discount Tire. 60,000 mile warranty for an all-season, V-rated tire. I have a set of 215/50/17 Yokohama V4S on my PT Turbo and I love them! Scott

Cal,
I can't imagine anyone that would take better care of their vehicle than you. The truth is that the tires that come O.E. on our PT are just like any other cost saving measure; good enough to get by, but definitely NOT anything special. Look at the reviews they get on the tire rack web site. I have had the Yoko ES 100s on for almost 20K now, through our winter monsoon season and all....a god tire for anything up to but not including snow. There are more than likely others out there that will fill the bill just as well. One observation: the Yoko ES100s I put on were 215s (almost an inch wider contact patch), the speedometer reads only 1 mph off at 60, the ride is markedly smoother (you drive the 405 every day, so this should help), the look is definitely an improvement, there is a definite handling improvement, and in my opinion they act more like the tire made for the O.E. rim than the original.[8)] |

I have been thinking of going with a 225/45. Some guys have reported using it on the stock rim with no problems. I have emailed Connor@tirerack but got no response from him on using this size. Below is a comparison of the 205 vs the 225 and 215 tires. The 225's seem to be almost exactly stock diameter.

It's close enough that you probably won't ever notice the difference. After seeing how easily the 215 fits the stock rim, I have had the same thought for my next set of tires.
Lets have a look at them when you get them on![8)] |
