Default New Yokohamas

Got some new Yokohama V4s's 215/50/17 and what a differance. No more of that annoying wheel wobble and the handeling has a noticeable improvement. Best of all, they look great. Thanx for the advice from those who gave it.[^] These will be perfect for Germany.

Sometimes I wonder if the folks at DC are trying to limit the handling of our PT. The cheap raggs that come stock just don't hold up under any kind of stress.

Glad you got some tight rubber under your ride.
Enjoy![8)]

I think it is more like going with the low bidder for tires. DC writes a tire spec and bids it out to whoever is cheapest. According to Tire Rack our tires are not complete junk but not nearly as good as the best in our category either.

They must have gotten a great deal on those skinny wheels. Who, in their right mind, would ever buy a 17" wheel that is only 6" wide??

To answer that question, all we have to do is look in the mirror, 'cause we all did [8]

The reasons for the skinny wheels:

Cost - less tire and less wheel = less cost

Drivability - narrow wheel/tires are easier to drive on irregular surfaces (accomodating for the masses).

Kirby,

I will agree to disagree with you on your COST point.

Those Yokohamas are 25-50% cheaper than the replacement Eagle RS-As (retail price, not wholesale). It was one of the reasons I use them on my both of my GTs (plus a much better tread pattern and a 60K mile warranty didn't hurt...) 205/50/17 is a front tire size of some Porsche 911s. There are not many tires in this field, hence the relatively high cost of tires.

Chrysler could have found a wider wheel for the same cost or darn close. There are lots of manufacturers in this arena. It boils down to a wheel size that Chrysler felt comfortable using with the suspension and wider engine bay.
