Default Steering Vibration

I recently purchased a 2003 turbo gt and have noticed a vibration in the steering, that starts around 65 mph. I've been back and forth with the dealership----they still have not resolved the problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem, or better yet found a solution?

Many cases in the past, the problem was traced to the Goodyear tires. Call Goodyear customer service. A lot of people had their tires replaced and balanced for free by Goodyear customer service. It's just a matter of them approving and scheduling an appointment with your local Goodyear dealer. In some cases an upgrade was approved. Since you bought a used PT, you may have to pay some of the costs.

But try the rebalancing route and see if that helps or even rotate the tires.

If the alignment is good and the tires have had a spin balance and you still have a vibration problem, you have two likely candidates: either a wrapped brake rotor (not typically a problem on a PT) or a defective front tire (more likely).

Hey thanks Sci-Fi,
I do believe there are goodyears on the car---the car is at the dealer servicing, but I'll give the tech. a call on monday relaying your advice----How did you hear about this issue and can you direct me to any of the sources that described the same problem?

I have noticed that on certain roads I can feel a vibration in the steering wheel but that goes away as soon as the road conditions change and so far it has lasted minutes not hours. Right now with new struts and tires highway manners are at an all time best and tire vibrations just dont exist anymore at speeds up to around 85 mph!

There *were* several threads over at PTE about it, but it appears the threads have not been archived. PM *Big Kahuna* and he can fill you in. He got a set of upgraded tires from Goodyear.

At around 80 mph I noticed a little vibration, very suttle which I figured must be due to my Goodyear tires reaching there end of life 51,808 miles to be exact. Well I recently changed my stock Goodyears to Yokohama AVS ES100's, and a alignment and no vibration what so ever. In fact if you can't get Goodyear to do the work for free, I would suggest getting some zr rated tires, they are really smooth tires.
