Default "...good K+N or not."

"This is Jay Buckley from FRAM. Easy to tell if it is a good K+N or not. The old model will say Made in USA right on the box. The new one does not. It also is skirting FTC regs because it should say Made in korea someplace on the filter or box. The older K+N oil filters were 95% efficiency, the new ones are 85% and made in Korea exclusively. We never made the air filters, they make them themselves. There is an interesting test on the GMC truck forum, shows K+N filters allowed 7 grams of dirt past the filter when tested to max capacity. They paid an independent lab to run the tests. All the paper filter held way more dirt and only passed 1 gram or so to capacity. The only filter worse than K+N was the UNI foam filter."

"K+N oil filters used to be made in Albion Illinois, by Champ Labs, a division of FRAM filtration on the same production line as FRAM racing filters. We asked for a slight price increase, they wanted a price decrease, lines in the sand were drawn and now they are made in Korea and Mexico. They used to be a over priced 90% efficiency filter, now in the low 80's (we havent tested them all)and the price is the same or higher. You can buy many full synthetic oil filters (FRAM Ultra, Bosch extended life, Mobil 1 Extended life) that are way better filters for the same or lower price. FRAM and Mobil 1 made in USA, Bosch? who knows since they departed Purolater.
