Default Ultragauge Mounts

decided to make a few of the ultragauge mounts, as i was told it was OK to steal all the glory.

-i'm planning to modify the design as shown in the picture below to the right. my thought is a larger area would allow for a decent size area to attach these with high bond tape, simplifying installation. after you stick it where you want it, you could remove the steering column shroud and screw it on if you wanted to. the tape is strong stuff and is rated -20 to 300F though so if you aren't the type to drill 3 holes in the plastic, you'd likely be fine.

i'll do my best bending it to precisely to mimic photos of "the other guys bracket"

realistically i'm looking at about a month before i can ship these. i still have test fitting and tweaking before i get to cutting, sanding, drilling, painting, etc.. I'm planning to order an ultra-gauge on monday so i can do the test fitting and drill the holes in the right spots.

if anyone isn't a wrinkle coat finish kinda person, i could throw CF vinyl over the face instead.

-i'm curious to know what you guys think is a fair price. cut, bent, drilled, painted wrinkle coat black, tape applied, stainless hardware included, and shipped. not trying to get rich here but i'd like this project to pay for the ultra gauge, scroll saw blades, stainless screws, and the wrinkle coat paint.

Looks nice

Just curious if this will fit all PT's or is there a difference in the column where "the other guy " has his mounted from Gen1 and Gen2? If there is a difference, you may have to have another design to accommodate all models.

good point!

i have no 2006+ to look at. it looks fairly similar in that area, but i'll study up. i may need a guinea pig for that to tell me how it fits. i'll focus on what fits the early pt and then i can send you or someone one to let me know if it's good or needs tweaking.

Did you decide on leaving it straight or making the bend..??
Can it be flipped for either side of the column..??

Myself, I wouldn't mind giving it a try...but don't know if I'd actually like it or not.
I'm used to mine on the left corner of the window, but I would like to remove it from the window.

i could bend it the opposite direction, but you have the newer car. so at this point, im not sure how it fits.

do you want one to try to bend? i mean this is more of a "to make people happy" than "to make money". i could just send you a flat pre-cut blank and a piece of Carbon fiber vinyl. you can bend it and then put the CF vinyl on. it's just aluminum, (to me) it bends by hand fairly easily.

Ya sure...I don't mind paying. I just want it on the left side.

My bracket was for our for generation 1 PT Cruise.

The tape may work if the surface is cleaned VERY VERY VERY VERY well. I was unsuccessful using 3m because the plastic just would not prep well enough and one hot day and the bracket fell. For me I found it was better to screw it in.

But Rob's personal NEW design may work better than mine.

IMO The cost of painting should be slightly higher cost over simple vinyl.

I am glad that Rob will be able to offer these !
