Cool New to forum, looking at an 03 Turbo

Hi,

We need a reliable second car and don't have a boat load of cash to get one. We spotted a 2003 GT with just 79k on the odometer. The Auto Check report says it's clean. Totally. And, of course it is blue. It is only $3,995 ! What gives ? I've never owned a turbo. Will that be a problem? From what I've read it will need a timing belt (chain ?) soon. How much do they charge for that? How much horsepower does the Turbo generate. A turbo only gobbles up petrol if I step on it, right ?

The electric engine fan on the '03 turbo was only for the one year, and is expensive to replace when it goes - have the car idle long enough to make sure the fan comes on and engine temp stays in safe zone - put the A/C on while doing that.
Timing belt - have water pump and idler and tensioner replaced at same time since parts are way less than the labor to get at them - should run about $1,000 - maybe more in LA area.
Depending on traffic, you can expect low 20s/high teens in MPG.
Engine puts out 215 HP.

Welcome to the forum. I have an 03 GT and would let it go for about half that price. It has paint issues, though. Body is in good shape, just needs paint. If you're headed to FL anytime between now and the spring, let me know.
