Default Learning curve

Hi. First forum. First Pt Cruiser. Bought an '05 convertible cheap just a couple days ago. 123K miles. Been reading up on the check engine light issues, got the error codes. P300 (multiple misfire) P304 (cylinder 4 misfire). I reset the code log. How long before I would see another error code? Is that after so many miles of driving? The previous owner claimed to have had the plugs & wires replaced recently. They looked to be newer. Haven't checked gap on plugs yet. Possibly vacuum leak? Is there an easy way to check for this? I am nowhere near being a mechanic, but I am trying to be optimistic and use this as a learning experience.

Welcome to the forum. I'd suggest you check the plugs and make sure they're gapped properly and none of the ceramic is cracked. If they're okay, check your wire connections on the coil and make sure they're clean and don't have any green corrosion on them. If so, clean them and try it again. There's no telling when the codes may reappear. Too many variables to pinpoint that. While you're at it, remove the air filter box and check the ground connections on the driver side fender. A loose ground can cause multiple problems too.

Welcome to the forum.

With the P0300 I would suggest checking your fuel pressure.

Thanks, everybody! Just got my temp. plate and trying to drive a bit and see if the check engine light will come on. It seems to be running a bit better. I put some lucas oil injector cleaner in and topped the half tank with 92 octane. The seller didn't seem like the type to worry about what octane of gas to put in. I am hoping that is all it was. I will keep my fingers crossed.
