Lower Control Arms Replacement - Bay Area

Hi

I am new to this forum, my wife has a '04 PT Cruiser Limited Turbo, and because of some noise while turning, she took it to a shop close to her office: They quoted her ~600 to replace the lower control arms, plus another 330 for stabilizer and wheel bearing.
I am not sure if that's a fair price, does anyone have any suggestions for mechanics in the bay area? Looks like they are making a pretty big margin on the parts as well...

Hmm I'd check another shop or the dealer! We went through the whole A arm bit on our Daewoo Nubria! And it's a bitch! The PT looks like a cake walk in comparison!

We were quoted $175 for the A arms for labor. I would think the PT would be about the same? I can tell you the A arms are "not" the place to skimp on!

A bad install will destroy jack up your day!

See what the dealer wants to do the job and use that for a guide, if it's close (in price) go with the dealer! That and the wheel bearings, stabilizer stuff should be fairly easy to do with help you can find here, if your fairly handy?

They were asking 160x2 for the parts and 3 hours of labor. Was your quote for both including labor?

Do I need specific tools to do that kind of work? If there is anyone who can help me do this: I can get the parts and stuff, but I don't have access to any tools...

Just to get an idea on parts cost:

Moog control arms: $60 each

Bearings: $25-$40 each

Sway bar bushings: $10 plus $20 for new end links...


So pretty much you have about $200 in parts ( if you buy them yourself ) and maybe 3-4 hours labor...
