pt cruiser rim corrosion

Has anyone had a problem with wheel rim corrosion? My 2002 Pt cruiser limited has heavy corrosion on all 4 rims. I was told that this is due to the fact that the brake pads have metal in them, and when braking, the dust containing metal corrodes the wheels. Shouldn't this problem be corrected by Chrysler?

what wheels do you have?? are they the wheel covers?? plastic ??

Don't have time to do a search on the subject, but yes, many have had the same problem.

GT 17" wheels, here. Yep the stock brake pads will crud up your wheels worse than after-market "low dust" pads. Frequent cleaning is the best protection.

On my chrome, stock wheels, there are many slight stained spots but they can only be seen up close. Also, down inside one rim where the bead of the tire seats on the un-chromed part, I have found corrosion like a cruddy, white build-up and pitting. It was bad enough to cause the tire to go flat. I've mounted new tires and so far they're holding air (but I'm holding my breath).

[:I] I have an 02 Dreamer, and a couple of my rims are showing rust spots. I put a small spot of clear finger nail polish on the rust in an effort to slow the spread of the rust. next spring my baby gets new rims. I havent been to the dealer yet to see if warranty would cover anything. (probley not)

My daughter has an '03 GT, and I noticed on 1 rim the chrome is peeling in one spot...[:0]
Other rims get filthy, but clean up okay - about at 20,000 miiles.
