Default tires too wide

I tried to get just a little bit wider and mounted the 245/40 tires. but the clearance between the spring seat and the tire sidewall was only 1/16" - not enough . . . so I learned and am now running 235/40, and they work great. just thought you'd like to know the results of the experiment.

good questions -
Wheels are Motegi DPK 8x18, offset +40, tires are Kumho hi-performance ECSTA SPT, and we swaped the OE struts for H&R coil-over conversion. these spring seats were nearly identical in diameter, so that was not a factor. by the way, the new SPT tires stick BETTER THAN glue; I pass cars trying to race me on either the inside or outside - 'tis easy to get around anyone!

Think you could fit a 235/45/18 tire or a 245/45/18 on a rim with +35mm ofset. I have 235/40s now and its just to low of a profile. I want somethig with a little more rubber

Thanks
Steven

It's funny but discounttire.com recommends 225/40 18s and 235/40 18s and that is it on tires sizes with 18s

Any Pics? I've been wanting to get Motegi's for my car, so I'd love to see how they look on yours.

It will fit. I have 235/45/18 in my PT. I also have a 1.75" drop in the rear and a 1.25" drop in the front with the Ground Force srpings I have installed. I recently went with a 235/50/18 tire in the rear to give it a jacked up Hot-Rod look. My rear tires are for Trams Ams. You just need to make sure that all your tires have the same speed rating. Mine are all "z" rated.
