Default 2001 Metallic clunking in rear on bumps

When I hit medium size bumps in the road, and there are many in Minnesota, I hear a clunking noise that I thought was a loose muffler or exhaust. Had everything in the exhaust checked and nothing loose.

What bushings might be making the noise? Sway bars?

Anything else?

Whatever you can tell me will be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

Does you car have rear disc brakes? If it does then take the rear calipers off and see that the metal tabson the brakepads are not weak ond not holding the pads tightly into the piston on the caliper. My cousins Sebring has an annoying rattle in the rear and it turned out to be the rear brakes just like I mentioned above.

Check the Watts Link, that's the link that goes from the center of the rear axle to some other links, The bushings have been known to go bad in these.

Agree. Also check the shocks - top & bottom mountings - that those bushings are okay.
