Alyce,

There's quite a few owners that have reported air loss from the earlier (2001-2003) chrome rims. You didn't say if you had the chrome, but I'm assuming you do. Apparently the chrome on those rims, in some cases, starts to peel/flake and causes a build up of tiny pieces on the edge of the wheel. The best thing to do is have the tires taken off the wheels and have the complete edge of each wheel sanded and smoothed down to where the tire will seat properly and not loose air.

Oh yea, WELCOME to the forum.

Well, yes, unless you buy new chrome/steel wheels. But sanding them down is a lot less expensive. You have to get rid of the build up of the flaking chrome and any rust that has formed on the edge of the wheel so the tire seats properly and doesn't leak.

Roughly how expensive is it? I am on my own here, live on a fixed income.... so if that is the least expensive, then that's what I have to do, I guess... anybody have an idea so I don't get ripped off?? [8)]

It's all labor, no parts really, so the cost will be up to the place you take it to. The biggest cost would be that you have to have the wheels mounted and balanced after they are cleaned. I would guess somewhere around $20-30 per wheel, but that's only a guess .....have never had it done. To save money, only do the wheels that your having a problem with, the ones that are losing air. Ask around at different tire stores and compare prices.

Default Re: have slow leaks too

I paid $17 per wheel which include dismount, sanding, sealant, remounting and fill with Nitrogen (to reduce corosion). Now I Wanted Helium ... ;-)

Sadly, after all that two of the rims still have a slow leak! I'm sorta bumed by that but I'll have to have new tires soon.
