This is my thinking; 3 rims started bubbling. If the 4th is from the same lot, then the 4th will probably start to bubble soon enough. To keep me from returning a 2nd time for the same issue it is easier for them to replace all 4 at the same.

Also, replacing only 3 rims might make the 4th stick out, kinda like using paint from different lots.

Does that make sense?

These are the new chromed 17" rims that come with the 'R' package on the turbo models. I have no idea if these are "clad" like the one shown on that link.

I've only used soapy water on the rims. I don't want to take a chance on "etching" the rims by using any kind of acid based cleanser. I just try to wash them once a week and that kept the brake dust from clinging to the rim.

I just don't know what caused them to start bubbling. Hopefully it was a bad lot and they've fixed this issue. If not, then I guess I'll be getting new rims every other month until I get a pair that doesn't bubble.

I am happy the dealer is not giving me any kind of run around about this (at least as far as I can tell). They've ordered the rims (I have a copy of the worksheet) and are doing the replacement for no cost to me. So far it seems like they are looking to keep me a satisfied customer, which is all too rare nowadays.

I will post an update once I hear from the dealer.

I took my wheels off to rotate and give them them a good cleaning. The left front had chrome peeling off aroung the inner edge for about 16 inches. I marked with a sharpie the extent of the peeling and put the wheel back on. Called the dealer the next day and just told him about it and WaLa and new rim is on the way no questions asked.[8D]
