MY 2003 PT which I bough new had its RF wheel bearing replaced at 44900 miles Jan.2007.My PT now has 56K miles.I appealed to Chrysler Customer serivice & they covered it out of warranty after the 3/36.Hmmm do you think they know there may have been alot of issues??I did have to pay $100.00 though.Come on build a car that needs no tuneups and last at least 100K!! My 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner wasnt that bad!! A bearing for it was maybe $10.00 & some grease!!( I forgot$$) Anyway I love the look of the PT but the things that break cost a bundle!! I was quoted $600.00 per side HUH??? This is why Im debating on keeping or trading for something more reliable and better MPG!! Thats my thoughts.

I guess I havent done this on the pt cruiser yet but they are on the advanceautoparts.com site for $69 for the premiums and 29 for the red line I think you guys need to evaluate your mechanics. that is over the counter price and I know that we can buy them for alot less than that.

If the wheel bearings are seriously that big of an issue, I think if I ever had to have them replaced, I'd just step up to the best built bearing out there from the get-go and skip the Chrysler branded or other cheapo brands. IMO, the Timken bearings that Autozone carries have been very beefy and well built in all my past experiences with them ..... for everything for pilot bearings, strut bearings, wheel bearings, throw-out bearings .... you name it.

2005 PT GT convertible. Just had both fronts replaced a few weeks ago - ONLY 16,000 miles. Had noticed the steering a little sloppy, then the grinding noise started! Still under warranty thank goodness. Will the new ones last any longer...

This was a great idea...
'04 PT 56,700 miles, right front wheel bearing... both tie rod ends, both lower control arm bushings... $390 on my own. Dealship should have covered the wheel bearing, but with a $200 deductable... come on. Suspension isn't covered under the basic 7year/70,000mile (very lame, this is probably WHY the wheel bearing is shot). |
