I have just got a 2001 Ltd, Ed. 95K miles.
I noticed a poppping / "tock" sound coming from the front right wheel and hurriedly diagnosed a faulty CV joint - so I changed the drive shaft (which was a pain free job) - BUT the noise is still there. Now, being a lot more careful I have litened more and noticed the noise to only come when braking at slow speed (say 5MPH). Also the noise does not come when the car (wheel) is cold. Which is why I thought my drive shaft work actually fixed it until I came home and heard the noise again!!! I have searched and searched this topic. Could it be the ABS speed sensor? or the control arm bushing? The bushing with the snaped off grease nipple seems fine and does not move. The noise is not steering related, But is linked to wheel rotation. I have pulled the fuse out for the ABS soleniod to issolate it to a mechanical or electrical issue. I have not pulled the other ABS fuse (the one that controls the fluid) - should I to really isloate the system? Any thoughts please!!

Is there a pulsing through the brake pedal? Possibly a slightly warped rotor?

Your problem sounds like mine. The brake pedal has nothing to do with the sound. No pulsing. If I go fast it goes fast and so forth. I have had everything that I can think of checked and fixed. Except, the sway links. The one on the driver's side is loose. The noise is in the driver's side front wheel. I just don't see how that could affect the wheel and make that noise. That will be the last idea that I have. I am going to get that fixed. $$$$$$$$ I am sure. If it works I will let you know.

Well thanks - and let me know.
Since my post - my daughter had a front end wreck!!! and it was body panels and front of engine damage. Since it came back from the repairers - .....NO NOISE!!! - I still don't know why. And since they never touched the wheels or suspension I wonder if it was something to do with the anti-lock brakes - 'cause they certainly got used in 'anger'.
